There is a direct correlation between the women of London wearing shoes with 5 inch heels and Londoners that empty their chamber pots on the streets. I may have used a pot when I was a little guy but don't remember.
They are still around and useful just look different and the same rules apply to disposition of the contents though not in the streets.
I can't imagine why anyone who didn't have a servant to empty it for them would use one of these things. I'd rather go outdoors to an outhouse or behind a tree in the middle of winter than to have to empty the thing in the morning, and then clean it out, and I say this as someone who has had to go outside through two feet of snow to an outhouse.
Me too. My grandparents had an outhouse back in the late 50s before getting indoor plumbing. Funny thing is I only remember trekking out there when it was dark, why?
It was considered an honor to assist King and Queens in their bathroom emptying and cleaning up after them. Frankly was a disgusting job.The pot many say on emptied out over into a back yard wall of castle. This had to be cleaned regularly but still smelled and attracted bugs. Learned this watching shows about castles .
It was common practice when we were kids to tip over an out-house as a prank during Halloween if you could find one after indoor plumbing was available. Maybe that's where I learned to run fast.
