People all over social media are now talking about boycotting Walmart, and the people who do still shop there may do it online, where it has to be shipped. We have been shopping at Aldi’s, but since our governor is making businesses require masks, it may be hard to find anyplace not requiring one. The Walmart here does not say you have to wear a mask, just a face covering, so obviously, they know that wearing an actual mask is not essential, and it is just obedience enforcement. My hat with the face covering seems to be fine, and I can breathe with it on, so I am wearing that when I need to go somewhere that I can’t not go to.
I'm conflicted about the effectiveness of masks. On the one hand some 'science' says that virus particles can pass through a cloth mask. On the other hand, masks must stop many particles from passing, even if not all. I've become increasingly skeptical of the ability of non-scientists to interpret scientific data, including myself, of course. We just don't have the expertise. The study someone cited as showing salon workers as safer because they wore masks isn't scientifically valid, as there was no control group of non-wearing mask workers. That study may have been a strong suggestion towards scientific study, but it, in itself, was not scientific. I'm up the air about this and I won't make up my mind because of an ideological bias, as I suspect many Trump supporters have done.
Hey! Who is "someone"? I have a nick so I'm not someone. I suggest you get your netiquette and manners right.
Pardon me, Thomas. I looked for you original post for quite a while and just couldn't find it. There's nothing wrong with my manners. Why so much hostility over a simple oversight? Is it just because I questioned the validity of your salon workers reference?
All of the residents, staff and employees are wearing their masks all the time every where in the building and employees are continually wiping down surfaces,
When they are not blaming people who test positive for having not worn a mask, the common mantra is that masks prevent other people from being infected, so I think I'll turn mine around, inside out, because, while I may have some concern for the general public, self-interest is stronger.
We get new cases every week. Now we are up to 13 residents and 14 staff with 5 resident deaths since this pandemic began. Compared to some facilities, we are not too bad. I was infected early, suffered for nearly a month, and thankfully am doing pretty well now. Since I fought for so long before testing negative, I don't require testing further. Everyone else must be tested once a week here.
Dwight, since you are referring to my post I'd like to add something because I'm not happy with the way things are represented here. Naturally, I don't mind you questioning the validity of that report. But who said it were a scientifically valid study? It sounds as if you imply that I did. I didn't. I just posted it without any personal interpretation. Cf. for easy reference: http://www.seniorsonly.club/threads/why-face-masks-dont-work.16071/ If you read the report, you will have learned that the authors themselves did not design a study based on given scientific standards nor had the stylists been chosen and instructed that they would be taking parting in such a study. It was rather the other way around. It was a report, not a study. The authors merely took advantage of what had happened in the salon without their involvement. All they did was analyse and evaluate that particular situation only afterwards. That's a fundamental difference to how scientific studies are conducted. Nonetheless, they listed four limitations to the validity of the report. Since, as you say, it falls short of scientific data anyway, also non-scientists can form an opinion about it. But I'd also take the liberty of doing so if these data were truly scientific ones. That is, btw, common practice here and elsewhere and does not stop at "scientific" studies. My scepticism refers to other fields.
"But who said it were a scientifically valid study? It sounds as if you imply that I did. I didn't. I just posted it without any personal interpretation." I grant you that and stand corrected.

What a shame. "OPP Sgt. Jason Folz could not confirm if the victim had a weapon. (Talia Ricci/CBC)" .... which means to me he probably wasn't armed. How much of a threat could an unarmed 73 year old man be? The police must be crazy.
