    Interesting.

Back in the early 80s I was on one of my many missions to enlighten myself and tried to slug through the Quo'ran. I could not do it. Just too many cultural frames of reference for me to make sense of it, so if there are such references in Poe's work, I would never be able to pick up on it (I guess most Westerners would be in the same position.) I really need to read his biography.

Another one of my sorta-related side notes: We all know that Poe married his cousin (as did Darwin, interestingly enough.) I read an article some years ago where genealogists determined that there is enough genetic "variety" between first cousins for them to safely procreate without the fear of creating "Deliverance" children, even though 24 states still prohibit the practice.

Wow, folks. Poe fans have to see this. Among the odd facts, Poe posited the big bang theory 80 years ahead of its 'official' presentation. Huh?

You have to scroll down and click on 'View Gallery'. Among other things, he was a big cat person... makes me like him even more. Overall, such a sad life.

What do I mean by 'big cat person'? I mean Poe was a big person who liked cats, not a person who like big cats..He weighed about 800 lbs at one point. His cats wouldn't go near him.
I read all this in a biography of Poe by Pee Wee Herman.
