With the debate plan now up in the air, it may depend on the outcome of the Pence/Harris debate. I hope VP Pence, who is a really nice man, will not capitulate to the likes of Harris. He's going to have to get tough with here and that is for sure.
An outsider's view: Much more of a civilized debate (like here on SOC ) as Susan Page demanded with more substance and less of a screaming fit like the presidential debate. I liked Pence's calm and presidential style more than that of his boss. It was striking (but not entirely unexpected) that both were dodging central issues. For example, Pence didn't answer the question why people ought to be following the Corona policy of the government if the government itself obviously doesn't care about it? When asked, Harris was vague on the question if she'd be willing to pack the Supreme Court in order to weaken the conservative majority. Both evaded the question if China was a competitor, an adversary, or an enemy (As regards Germany, Trump had been more clear-cut.) as well as the question of whether there was an agreement on what would happen if one of the respective candidates fell ill or passed away prematurely. Let me leave aside the other issues. Just wondering: Which of the issues discussed were the most crucial for you personally? Were they answered satisfactorily?
Yes, this is a discussion forum and as such, I noticed that @Dwight Ward placed a ? after black supremacists which automatically makes it a question and not an assertion and as a question he is asking for some further perusal but as I see it, non-combative. And, just as Atheism is a religion even with all of the aspects involved with it, Christianity is also a religion even though I detest the word “religion” as in, “I am religious”. Each division of Christianity is called a sect and all of the sects combined are called a religion. The present mainstay of critical thinking when it involves those who declare their “Christianity” is whether or not they agree with across the board abortion. Absolute Christians whether Roman Catholic or Protestants disagree with one’s ability to have an abortion and still be Christians. Both Biden and Harris are advocates of abortion which leaves in question as to their honesty concerning their faith. Biblically, it is like sitting in the middle of the road and is wishy-washy at best. Personally, I am not at liberty to judge someone’s Christianity over the abortion problem because as I have written before, that’s God’s job. That said, I am well schooled and know right from wrong and will never intentionally vote for wrong.
In the Pence/ Harris debate last night the moderator but out a lot of miss information and then asked Pence to comment on it. Trying to push the idea of climate change before it is even proved. These sick people. Climate Misinformation From The USA Today Moderator
The problem with that question is that it is asked only of Republicans, while pretty much every Democrat governor, and the Democrat political leadership in general seem not too take their own mandates seriously. With all the talk about the outdoor event relating to Trump's Supreme Court nominee, there have been a few high-profile Democrat funerals recently in which there were no social distancing and many of those in attendance were not wearing masks. For all of her chiding others for not wearing a mask, Speaker Pelosi's mask is usually hanging off of one ear. Then there is Dr. Fauci himself, who certainly does not set a good example. The VP was right in not answering that question because it was presented in such a way as to imply that it was only the Trump campaign that has been lax in these precautions.
Getting back on topic, neither Harris nor Pence did a good job on the question of abortion. Harris skated around it by alluding to a woman’s rights to her own body and Pence, whilst confirming his and Trump’s stance did make the mistake of saying the Harris advocated abortions up to the time of birth when she has openly said she would back some restrictions. That said, from the very 1st question, Harris started out lying through her teeth whether from lack of education or the need to try to pass on an accusatory false remark, the Pence faux pas was relatively small comparatively.
On another side of the debate news front, it was announced that the next Presidential debate will be virtual. President Trump replied with, “I’m not going to waste my time”. In my way of thinking, an open debate sans material support is just that, intellect versus intellect. An open 1 on 1 debate should never be open to notes, proctors or guidance from an outside source and a virtual debate is a pure invitation for those types of trickery. No excuses or wires Joe. Just you and D. Trump trading thoughts for thoughts on real issues.
One other thing noted in the debate was Kampala’s bad choice trying to use Abraham Lincoln as an example. There was a spot open on the Supreme Court and she quoted Lincoln as saying it wouldn’t be right to make a choice for the Supreme Court until after the election etc. etc. The FACTS are that Lincoln couldn’t make a choice for the Supreme Court because congress was out. When Congress did convene on Dec. 5, 1864 Salmon Chase was announced by Lincoln and Congress confirmed him on the same day.
