I have been watching a lecture series on Youtube by a Harvard professor of Political Philosophy, Michael J. Sandel. This particular topic is "Justice--What's the Right Thing to Do." I know that may sound kind of dry, but he is a fascinating speaker and I am totally enjoying the lectures. Each one is about an hour long, so it's nice to sit back with a cup of coffee and return to the classroom. Here's the first video in the series, called "The Moral Side of Murder"... And here's some information on Professor Sandel. https://scholar.harvard.edu/sandel/home
Go? I'm too old, extremely slow, and lacking the small change needed. But there are alternative ways as can be seen here. I have known him for quite some time and read his book What money can't buy. I assume his thoughts aren't very popular among libertarians and advocates of radical free-market concepts, though. I also read that the largest lecture halls can't hold all the students interested in attending his lectures so that tickets need to be raffled. His books have been translated into a number of Asian languages financed through crowdfunding.
I have checked it to watch later, which I will do after dinner. Not a fan of Harvard, but I'll give it the old college try.
I've purchased the lecture DVDs from The Great Courses. As I discovered when getting my degree at night, this stuff actually has a context when we're adults.
I've used them. They are available streaming now too, but I haven't looked at the price. When I bought the DVDs, they came with a small book too. I might look into the Harvard courses, discussed in the OP. That might be interesting.
I'm actually surprised at the availability of college courses on Youtube; not for any type of credit of course. Everything from Introductory Calculus (Oxford) to General Biology (UC Berkley).
THAT is the crucial directive in this life we live! I am amazed how some folks reach a certain point in life and (apparently) decide that they've learned all they want/care/need to. Every single day, I learn something new. Not all of what I learn are BIG lessons, but I still enjoy adding to my inner knowledge base, daily. Life is for the learning, folks. Get on out there and learn something new, today!
Ain’t YouTube just the greatest thing ever? Actually, I do attend a lot of lectures via YouTube. Just about every major school, especially MIT has a series of lectures to attend at any time I want to turn one on. I wrote “especially” MIT because there are at least 300 lectures on Quantum Theory alone which is something I’m greatly interested in. The thing is, they’re all free so it’s a 3 bears kind of thing. Some are way over my head, some are too easy and some are just right but no matter what, I can switch from one lecture to another that fits me better any time I wish.
I enjoy these lectures and whether a college course offers credits via YouTube or not is irrelevant in my case. I've got all the degrees I'll ever need, but never enough knowledge. I could easily have become a professional student, had I the means.
