Grocery order came today. I ordered half a gallon of butter pecan and a quart of "java" (coffee flavor). I'm so freakin' excited.
I'm not big on the "Rocky Road" ice creams, or ice cream with cookies. I'm kinda minimalist that way, although pecans, strawberries & cherries, and pistachios are OK. My favorite is anything that's homemade/in-house made. There was an old general store in the Virginia suburbs of DC where they made ice cream, but they only sold it on Saturdays and Sundays...while supplies last. Yeh, there were always lines. There was a local independent ice cream maker my last employer would bring on site during the summer and treat us all to cones and sundaes. Free is good.
I love rocky road, or most flavors with nuts in them. I don't care for any of the "cookie" ones because the cookie is usually sogged out and nasty. Last night I indulged in a bowl of butter pecan and it was soooooo good.
The marshmallows don't bother me; at least they are intact. I like to have a bowl of plain vanilla ice cream, sprinkled with chopped nuts and a drizzle of chocolate syrup.
When I try a new ice cream place that makes their own, I always try vanilla first. If they got that right, I figure the other flavors are gonna be pretty good, too. Similar to a new Chinese restaurant. Hot & Sour soup is my litmus test. ps: It's just what I do. It does not mean that I know what I'm doing.
Like nuts sometimes just harder to chew. Do not like cookie dough or marshmallow stuff. We do make our on but normally just vanilla. Otherwise I like Blue Bell just about all if them.. ..really like the ice cream cone one.
