I have the respect of the people who I have taught (my son, my nephew, former students, and even some of those who were in Boy Scout troops and church groups that I have been involved in) so if, generationally, there is a lack of respect among young people, which I believe to be the case, then it must be that there are a whole lot of others who were not deserving of respect. More likely, however, this respect has been undermined by agenda-driven schools, government programs, and tech corporations.

I don't believe that our generation feels we are entitled to respect, except for Cody. :p

Yeah, but I didn't appear to be a Senior until I was about 75, so I missed out on a lot of courtesy.

Was 73 in this photo with the Apple Valley Senior Citizens Club Dance Band.

I believe it was Plato who complained about the disrespect of youth towards their elders. And there was a great song during our time, to illustrate it, that I can sort of remember, definitely the tune. And I remember some dancing to it like the Rockettes kicking in a line, "Why can't they be like we were, perfect in every way. What's the matter with kids to-day?"
Entitlements? Roosevelt set up social security. It is a law. If you worked, you paid into it and were 'entitled' to it when you retired. Reagan began drawing on it to pay for other things, putting IOU's into the Trust Fund. Clinton used it to make a second set of books to present a balanced budget. Presidents then through Obama just took the money as 'merely taxes' and there is no Trust Fund left. But since money is being pulled from thin air until the populace notices, it doesn't seem to matter. Except as a threat that the opposition is stealing our Social Security.

    From the Social Security website:

"Trust Fund" and "Lock Box" are deceitful terms used by politicians.

You are right about Trust Fund and Lock Box being used by politicians. They keep threatening that our Social Security will be lost by the opposition.
How about this? The National Debt from inception of the country was $9 trillion to Obama. It was more than DOUBLE that when he left office. With interest rates on the debt and obligations, it is now impossible to pay it off no matter what money is used. The debt naturally kept rising through Trump.
    google national debt clock.
There will be a reset. Maybe like what Mexico did. One new peso for one hundred old. Maybe all money will be e money so the gov't knows what we have but we won't know what it is doing...

    I agree 100%.

The can keeps getting kicked down the road. Every once in a while a politician will talk about it, but none will do anything. No voter wants their life to be disrupted.

Regarding e-money...COVID was either designed to accelerate controls over us, or it provides the perfect cover. Notice how so many stores have stopped taking cash? We will be told that the exchange of dollars among each other is gonna kill us. And once there is no more cash, not only will all semblance of privacy be eradicated, we shall literally be left penniless at the push of a button...and so many are so easily played, they will cheer when it happens (to someone else.)

I still hold that the Social Security was held separately as long as gold backed our money. It was systematically accounted for. Slowly those in charge figured it was fair game with money created out of thin air.

    Yup.

That quote from Social Security cites the Johnson administration as changing the way SS was accounted for.
And it was the Nixon administration who took us off the gold standard.

I have no idea how either of those two things came about. Congress is not blameless. And neither is the press.

As a senior I'm not looking for special treatment I am looking for fairness ..
I still work 3 days a week when I turned 70 my benefits were clawed back
because of my age my life insurance was cancelled along with debility benefits my drug plan was also cancelled but I managed to get that back. My Canadian pension is deemed as income so it must be declared at tax time any savings plans are all taxable income.
So there are no free rides for old goats like me well almost none I can go to Ricky's and get the seniors breakfast one egg 2 strips of bacon with a piece of toast orange juice is extra.

Well, like my wife, with her two AA and Bachelors, your college degrees are more entitled than someone who only has a high school diploma.
I'm entitled as a Navy Veteran, because I get some things free that others don't get, like Veteran's Day meals and low co-pay medical and medications.

People under 55 years old can't live in a 55+ community. Many of the younger generation say that's discrimination, but "oh well".

When I was in my fifty's I didn't consider myself a senior maybe because I was in good shape as far as seniors community's there should be a percentage of young people allowed it keeps the old young :)
I live in a seniors complex all they do is gather in groups complaining about a blade of grass being too long or the visiting grandchildren being to loud along with being anti maskers I'm the only one that wears one.
