Were now able to get this series on Peacock. But, if a person knows little-to-nothing about ranching, and prefers the ocean beach scenery to mountain scenery, the series won't be much of an interest. We watched two episodes of Season 1 last night and found it to be highly interesting. But, then again, we loved mountain scenery, wildlife and know about ranching. Well, we know enough about ranching to follow what goes on. Don't like the language used, but.......... The series reminds us of the series, Longmire, that we really got into. Also, watched a series called The Ranch, with Sam Elliott.
Just talked to my wife's sister and she told me, "nope, with location and a lifestyle I wouldn't want or like, I wouldn't watch it".
I watched three or four episodes of Yellowstone. I liked it. The language was a little raunchy at times, especially from the daughter, but my wife doesn’t like western anything. So I relented.
We are up to episode 6 of 1st season. Quit a bit of "language" in it and killing. Last one was the ranch hand that definitely knew ranching, but had a real bad attitude towards one of ranch hands. Seen the ranch brand on his chest that he didn't have. Will continue watching. I absolutely love old and new Westerns. Even have some DVD's of Westerns. For Christmas this year, I got three Western DVDs. Two were Audi Murphy ones. My wife likes Westerns also, but I "love" them. So, guess I'm lucky there.
There is a new western out, just released, titled “News Of The World.” I read the book. pretty good story.
Yes, with Tom Hanks. We plan on seeing it later. Isn't this the first western Tom Hanks has ever been in?
Guess, since you are the only one that replied to me, either I've been put on "ignore" a lot more than I thought, or there are those here that just don't like modern day westerns.
I might try it again, but it was the unnecessary bad language that put me off, I think. @Cody Fousnaugh, I didn't reply initially because sometimes people get angry when I don't like the same things they like, such as the poetry guy. So, since I didn't really have anything to add, given that the language had already been mentioned, I didn't reply.
@Cody Fousnaugh I feel sure no one has you on ignor or are blocking your conversations, it is just not their cup of tea. Everyone has their own reasons for responding or not respoding, and it generally has nothing to do with the author of the thread. For example, how often do you and I respond to each other's threaad. I'm sure as often as we feel like it or have a real interest, otherwise we are mute. I read westerns; you are western, so you're the real McCoy.
Yes, Ken, we definitely know about the language, but many movies have it in them today. We definitely don't like hearing it, but, if a person really likes the rest of the movie/series, just have to put up with it. I really don't know how many movies we have in DVD that have the "F" word in it. My wife loves John Travolta's acting, but his movie, To Paris With Love, that we do have, he is pretty vulgar. In watching some sports, a person can see, by mouth motions, what is being said.
Well, last night we watched the final episode (10) of Season 3. Unbelievable just how many people watch the series........really, unbelievable! The language can be/is notorious, but, then again, we aren't watching tv back when Lassie and Rin Tin Tin were on. In this last episode, three family members are attacked, one with a bomb in an office. This is the second time Beth has been attacked in the series. Part of Season 4 has already been filmed. All of Season 4 will be filmed in Montana. Fans of the series are hoping there will be a Season 5. Questions are: Will John Dutton (Kevin Costner) have to give up part-to-all of his ranch that his dad gave him? Who will be killed (murdered) next? How will Rip handle Beth's attack this time (bombing)? And, numerous other questions, asked by both article writers and fans.
First note, I’m no prude but on my street, I hear enough bad language from women and men yelling on their cell phones or just walking and talking with their friends and it’s free. Why pay to hear it? I watched 3 episodes of Sam Elliott’s The Ranch and that was enough for me. I also watched a trailer of Yellow Stone on FB which featured a fight scene with enough cursing to fill my daily intake tolerance to overflowing. The thing is, I watch fiction to get away from the norm and to be entertained. Sitting around listening to a bunch of cursing and watching obligatory sex just isn’t entertainment to me. I understand that just about every movie has “some” bad language in it but when it seems that a single sentence can’t be completed without it I’m out. One of the things I think about is when the actors are reading to try out for a part, the first thing the producers and director are concerned with is how well they curse.
Well, Bobby, just like I said in a previous post, I'm learning very, very quickly that we no longer live back in the Lassie/Rin Tin Tin days. Funny, but there is a scene in Kevin Costner's movie, Robin Hood-Prince of Thieves, where Christian Slater says the "F" word. I'm sure the "F" word wasn't used back in the Medieval times! We were pretty shocked when we heard it. I don't know where you and Yvonne live, but, we've never heard much-to any vulgar language anywhere we've lived. Don't you live close to family? Do they complain about language they hear around them? The cost to us, to watch these series is monthly cost of Comcast. That's it. It really does seem like, today, that both sex and language sells. The actors don't have to accept the script, but then again, they won't be in the movie either. We love westerns and, obviously, this is a "modern day" western, but I seriously doubt if any owner of a ranch or farm would allow/tolerate this kind of language or sexual stuff on their property.
Cody, you can do what you want. No one is telling you that you can’t and you can also justify why you watch and listen to what you want any way you like. You are your own judge and you decide what is acceptable and how much it is acceptable and can rationalize all day long as to why it is acceptable. Bad language goes back thousands of years so saying that such and such during Medieval didn’t exist.....it did. The Apostle Paul warned about such things. He said to put away all filthy communication” (Col. 3:8) so by extension, I avoid it also. I can’t control what other people do in real life but I absolutely can control what I believe to be entertainment and what I believe isn’t. If I’m going to watch westerns, which is limited, I prefer the older ones with the guns that never run out of bullets and a gunfighter who can hit a quarter in mid air but uses 20 or so bullets to hit someone once in a shootout.
