I had a friend who almost had that done. He collapsed at work and was rush to the ER with a blockage. Another friend DID have that done as a result of early cancer detection. He was sorry he let them do that to him, and wished he had tried a different route.
My dad died at 55 from pancreatic cancer. I think drinking and smoking contributed to it. I just lost a friend to colon cancer 2 weeks ago. She was 86. I've heard that when you reach a certain age they tell you to "not bother" with colonoscopies. I think I'll reject that advice.
I just had one along with a CT scan I keep saying I want to die from the hands of a jealous husband not this terrible disease
(1/24/2021) Sunday Cabbage (1/3 boiled): 80 Pinto beans and cheese ( X 2 ): 520 Frozen dinner + potato flakes: 190 Mixed vegetables (2/3 c): 60 3 peanuts: 20 1 extra green bean (to see if they were cooked): 1 Total: 870 calories Yesterday was easier than today, I think because I ate first thing this morning. I never do that normally. Runny mashed potatoes in frozen dinner. Stirred in a tbsp of potato flakes and it fixed it. .
@John Brunner Goats' milk is highly nutritious, containing a bit more milk fat than cows' milk, and is more highly emulsified, which means the cream will stay in suspension for a longer time. Pasteurization of goats' milk is almost never carried out as it is universally with cows' milk. There has evidently been no incidence of consumptive goats detected. Frank
Interesting. I know that the soap & cheese are often sold. Our county's AG fair not only has the livestock shows and auctions, they have various vendors and demonstrations. There are a couple of alpaca farmers around here who would bring their critters and spin wool there. But now that I think of it, I don't recall there being any goat farmers or goat products being sold. Heck, I don't even recall seeing any goats on my many drives around here. There is a pretty well-known commune (aka "ecovillage") not far from me. I bet they do goat stuff there (Twin Oaks.) One of these days I need to visit.
A tidbit of information, FWIW. Caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) is a contagious viral disease of goats. It has no cure, the goat will eventually die early from it, and it is fairly common among dairy goats. CAE is typically spread from mother to kid through the ingestion of colostrum or milk. Pasteurization of milk and colostrum will kill the virus. However, it is not transmissible to humans. It is the most dreaded disease of dairy goat owners. Fortunately none of ours had it, but when I bought them I didn't even know about it, and never checked first. We lucked out.
Interesting. All of these encephalitis diseases. I believe that BSE is one of them (although this one is transmittable to humans.) Nasty stuff. I've got to think that no one pasteurizes the goat milk before feeding it to the kids...that the owners permit the kids to nurse naturally. So what do goat ranchers do...just live with it? It sounds "testable." It is curable?
I've never done this myself, because we didn't get our goats for breeding purposes. Only brush clearing. If you have a pregnant goat that has tested positive for CAE, you have to be there the moment kids are born, and remove them immediately, so they are not allowed to nurse. Give them heat treated colostrum, and after that, bottle feed the kids with milk from other goats that have tested negative.
(1/25/2021) Monday Beans & cheese: 260 Frozen dinner: 190 Mixed vegetables: 120 Cabbage: 160 Fritos (1/2 oz.): 80 Total: 810
(1/26/2021) Tuesday The head of cabbage is gone. I'm working on a big pot (2 lbs) of mixed vegetables. Then there's the huge pot of boiled pinto beans (12 half cup servings). Will have to freeze some of that. There was a 1 oz snack pack of Fritos on top of the refrigerator that was bothering me, because I could just see the top of it. It is gone now. Managed to make it last 2 days. Feeling adventurous, I added a tablespoon of ketchup to the beans and cheese, for variety. This has to be it for the day because the count is already up to 870. It's only 8:45 pm. It's going to be a long night. Beans, cheese & ketchup (X 2): 540 Frozen dinner + pot. flakes: 190 Mixed vegs 2/3 c: 60 Fritos: 80 Total: 870
Okay I missed something. Last I read was about trucks and opossums now I'm reading calorie intake? What did I miss @Nancy Hart?
