Right now it is 17°f. Bitter overnite below zero. I like the change of season, including winter. Yeah it sometimes sucks, but adversity is good. Man against nature and all that good stuff. Age does make a big difference. 30 years ago I would spend 6 hours staring at a hole in the ice. Fish taste so much better through the ice.
If you guys want a laugh, we had cold front just came down sending the temperatures to the lowest in a long time. People huddling around kitchen fires and looking for their warmest clothing they have. Some dragging out leather jackets and fur coats that got sent down in care packages from relatives in US and Canada. My outside thermometer show that terrible cold yesterday by dipping to 74 degrees. I have been living here to long because even I felt cold but remember our house thermostat was set lower than that in Canada
Heck, when I wake up in the morning, the temp in the wood stove room is 65° and my bedroom is close to 60°. It's funny, after I'm putting up a fresh load of firewood and it's in the 30s, then I come inside and the house is in the mid-to-high 60s, it feels too warm.
Ours turned out to be all rain. My thermometer on the front porch hovered just above freezing all day. As the weather guessers say, "We dodged a bullet this time."
In the past few hours, they've downgraded our snow warnings. Tuesday, Tuesday night, and Wednesday, we're still supposed to have snow but, after that, we're down to 30-40% chances of snow.
Well...the white carpet has arrived to my town; they predicted 10" and two days of heavy snow. NYC has been placed "on emergency".
I was watching the weather last night. Forecasts are in terms of feet, and storm duration is in terms of days. It looks like Maine is on the outer bands of it.
