Don't know yet. I picked up a couple of sandwiches when I was out to reheat for dinner later. I had them give me the tartar sauce on the side for easier reheating/self-assembly. I threw together the slaw when I got home so it can sit for a while, and will fire up fries in the cast iron skillet. I'll report back later.
Okay. This is gonna be tough to rate. -They could not give me a side of the sauce that comes on it because they don't have specimen cups. They gave me a pre-packaged "Garlic Tartar Sauce," which I did not like. -Since I did not have the original sauce, I took off the pickles. I thought they would be funky with the garlic tartar sauce. -I reheated it hours after buying it, so quality suffered. That being said, I rate it about a 3: -The size of the filet it HUGE. It is a big chunk of flounder, with really big flakes. -My first bite got a mouth full of cayenne pepper. I thought "I know it's cajun, but this is not a good kind of hot." The rest of it was pretty mild, probably because of that first mouth o' fire. Something happened to the breading on the one I got. -I did not like the garlic tartar sauce. I would have liked the sandwich better with regular tartar sauce on it. -I liked the thick buttery bun. I'll try it again, with the standard tartar sauce and without letting it sit for so long.
Yeah, stuff doesn't taste as good when reheated. Next time my hubby wants Popeye's chicken, I'm going to order that sandwich to try it.
Today we picked up Chinese takeout. My tastebuds are wonky so it seemed kind of "meh" though it smelled wonderful.
I reheated the second one for lunch, this time just using mayo rather that "Garlicky" Tartar Sauce. meh. But as you said, reheating disqualifies me from having a valid review. I will say I experienced a similar cayenne heat thing with this second one. This first bite was hot, while the rest was not. I guess the initial shock negates the rest of the experience. Regarding general availability of a good fried fish sandwich... The co-located Long John Silver's/KFC the next county over has a fish sandwich (pollock or cod, your choice) that truly sucks...flat, soggy & flavorless. I expected better, but have rarely eaten at a LJS since they are few & far between. I see that Arby's is advertising their pollock fish sandwiches (large and regular sized) pretty heavily...I guess Popeye's has "created buzz" on fish, so Arby's is gonna tag along. Fish is advertised as being a limited time thing there, while Popeye's seems to have it as part of the permanent menu. Either way, for the size of these sandwiches and the price, the two of them should give McDonald's a run for their money. A Filet O' Fish sandwich (not the full meal) is nearly $6 locally. Popeye's flounder sandwich is under $5, and Arby's is running a 2/$6 on their specialty sandwiches in my market. I still want Arthur Treacher's to come back.
I had a fast food sandwich for lunch, so tonight's gonna be a salad, minestrone soup and Italian bread.
