It’s been years since I hit 66 but ya might want to plan your stops before hand. There wasn’t a lot of money floating around some of those towns back when I traveled it but after this covid thing, I shudder to think of how many cafe’s and small motels closed down permanently. I traveled 40 from Barstow to Sun City and back a few times breaking off onto 66 when 40 got to monotonous. It’s a good trip and a lot to see. I think it’ll be the “peak” of your year!
Ugh, the week has started off with a pit. The new dishwasher was scheduled to be delivered today between 3-7 p.m. I was woken up by the doorbell at 8:30 a.m. Surprise! Luckily my husband was up and dressed, sitting on the patio drinking coffee. The irritating thing is, he had not yet disconnected the old dishwasher because we "assumed" we had until 3 p.m. or later to do so. (We had paid Lowes to haul off the old one.) So he started scrambling to unhook the old machine while I called the "logistics" company to yell at them. Idiots. The delivery guys were going to wait till the machine was unhooked and haul it off, but as luck would have it, the water valve to cut off the water supply to the dishwasher decided to leak. So the delivery guys left the new machine in the living room and left without the old machine. We are supposed to call Lowe's and reschedule pickup. Husband has made a trip to the hardware store to purchase a new cut-off valve and the water main is turned off in the meantime. I'm in a really bad mood right now.
My pit was spending the night (1AM till 5:30AM) in the emergency room because I could not pee. I finally got to bed at 6AM and slept for a couple of hours. My peaks were: -it was nothing more serious than a bladder infection -we don't have socialized medicine, so quality service was there when I needed it -I wasn't one of the other poor folks who were in there for some real serious stuff
Well, the new cutoff valve is in place and the old Kitchenaid is out by the curb. Appears that the plumbing is snowballing; hubby has decided to replace a bunch of old connections while he's at it. At first look, the new Bosch doesn't have nearly the build quality of my old Kitchenaid dishwasher. It seems almost flimsy by comparison... even the dish racks seem cheesy. At this point I couldn't care less; it's staying regardless. @John Brunner -- sorry you had such a bad night at the ER and I'm glad it's nothing too serious. Though a bladder infection can be plenty uncomfortable... so keep hydrated and take it easy.
A fairly well known remedy for bladder infections: Cranberry Juice. When I start to feel “uncomfortable” I grab a jug of it and voila, by morning the problem is no more.
@Gloria Mitchell @Beth Gallagher @Bobby Cole Thanks for the well-wishes. I got that whole other thread on this issue going on with me. I gotta just bite the bullet and do what I need to do to fix it before one of those trips is for something more serious. It's a just bullet a don't know that I'm capable of biting. Others do. Dunno how. @Beth Gallagher I had problems buying appliances from Sears and their 3rd part delivery service. I had not moved here from my old home yet, and made the 2 hour one-way trip TWICE specifically to meet the appliance delivery (fridge, washer, dryer), and both times they no-showed me. One time they told me they went to get the stuff and it was not available for them to pick up. I forget what the other excuse was. Neither time did they call me to let me know. Two days burned up for no good reason. I cancelled the order and bought the fridge from a local company, and the washer/dryer from my local Lowes. You gotta wonder what kind of slackers run their daily business this way and can't even call the customer.
What a day. The best thing that happened is that the garbage collector actually picked up our old dishwasher that was sitting out by the curb along with our trash. Sheesh. So now I have to get Lowe's to refund my $30 that I paid for "haul away." I have tried to call them twice and both times got mysteriously "disconnected." They had better answer that damn phone because they don't want me to go down there.
Your curbside pickup will take an appliance???? Huh. All the years I had trash pickup living in Fairfax County, that kind of stuff was limited to 2x/year "Special Pickup Day." Or you took it to the dump and paid a fee.
We were surprised; we usually just put household garbage and maybe a few limbs or whatever out for pickup. We had put the dishwasher out there so I could call Lowe's and tell them to send the Moron Team back to get it, and in the meantime the garbage truck scooped it up. Yay.
