You let me know if I can do research or anything for you. I don't understand what your mean by "pickup our meals." Doesn't Meals on Wheels deliver? (I'll ask to have these moved to your regular thread here.)
Thanks, @John Brunner, I looked them up. They charge by the meal based on income less allowable expenses. They even publish a menu that looks pretty dang good to me based on how I've been eating. Looks like they furnish one meal a day. I have no idea who prepares these meals. I do suppose volunteers deliver to the clientele. I used to have both friends and family who volunteered for this endeavor. Check out this menu. APRIL 2021 MENU APRIL 2021 MENU This menu represents a regular diet only. Please contact the Meals on Wheels office at (405) 321-7272 before 7:30am on any day that you do not wish to receive a meal. Thank you! That all looks pretty good. I believe Meals on Wheels prepares foods in a centralized commercial or quasi-commercial (large church facility) location. Volunteers are not making food at home...the QC and safety have direct oversight. I hope this works well for the two of you, Bill. The additional benefit is that you have someone sticking their head in every day.
I'm pretty sure that Meals on Wheels here doesn't charge. It's run by a volunteer group. I was going to volunteer to deliver them but some of the neighborhoods that they deliver to are potentially dangerous for a woman alone.
My grandson has accepted the scholarship offer from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. His major is mathematics and his graduate work will be in Statistics. I hope this will enable him to earn a decent income.
Congrats, Bill. I gotta think if he enjoys it, he will succeed. There are so many professions and so many industries where those skills can be put to use.
I wrote a long post awhile ago and left the forum for a minute and now can’t find it. Guess it was deleted. Hope that’s the case and I didn’t post on someones thread . The post was an update so I'm re-writing it again. We are not going to use Meals On Wheels. My wife was uncomfortable with MOW for some reason so I wrote thet off. We have the menu for several restaurants we like and all deliver except one and we have someone to pick up meals whenever we need them. I felt the need to give my som a break from his responsabilities toward us because I feel he has his hands full without any responsibility to us or buying groceries for us and running \errons for us. As result I have signed up with Walmart+ to deliver groceries to us and in addition have signed with Shipt, a delivery service owned by Target. The gal across the street from me had offered to do any of the above for us so I am using her as a backup. I think for the moment I have most of our bases covered.
As it turned out I will not use Walmart+ service to deliver my groceries. I signed up with Walmart, went through [he laborious effort to place an order and schedule a delivery time. Three hours past delivery time I called Walmart and asked why my groceries had not been delivered. They were holding them for pickup and the only thing we could do about it was cancel my order and replace it. I cancelled and when my SHIPT and this morning placed an oder with them to be bought at Crest Market, the store I normally do business with. There was one item Crest didn't have and I forgot four other items. I think SHIPT will work out better than Walmart +. I hope it will. The think is I'm not falling to pieces, but I don't handle a computer as well as Iused to handle one, I get upset easier than I used to get upset, I don't do anything as well as I used to do anything. This was a big deal for me.
That's too bad, Bill. I've been on that part of Walmart's website when preparing to go shopping, although I've not used the service. Choosing Pickup or Delivery is not straight-forward. But it seems you found a solution. What else is there? And you might give Walmart another shot later.
I worked up a new budget yesterday. I’ve taken on some new expenses in recent months and wanted to know if I could afford them. I like to know where I stand since I’m on a fixed income. Besides, it gave me something to do. And last night I gave my harmonicas a workout playing along with Hugh Laurie and some New Orleans’s blues. Good stuff. And @John Brunner I did give Walmart another chance. Worked fine.
