"Amen to that Sister Bridget!" "Not sure about the bravest tho, but thanks. I have my fears." Both dogs sat up suddenly, as did Terence. "Smoke!" said Terence, it's in the air. Anything on the radio Shirley? Phones are dead here. Is that flames I see with the binoculars?"
I thought we defeated this demon way back in another story. Could it be that it survived and has followed us here to this story?!?!? It seems that Jetson can speak to Sister Bridget. Sister Bridget, will you tell him to go ashore and find out whatever he can? They will never be suspicious of just another dog.
Please no more demons. I am ok with flesh and blood humans.. even low life looters.. but not something I can not see and that poses the greatest threats.....
I suspect you're right Craig, and the electricity is out? There may be some back up generators in the hospital. Can Jetson spy for us Sister Bridget? It could be dangerous, especially if there's a Demon prowling about. This is why you have the silver butt on your shotgun? And why you asked me to make you all those silver shotgun pellets, and my box of silver bullets. I'll share but they cost me. Was that gun shots and screaming? Just then, a powerful spotlight engulfs the two boats, Odysseus and Sringray with a loudspeaker blaring instructions, and demanding ID and purpose. Silhouettes of weapons are seen as Jack yells "It's me Jack n Jake with supplies n help for youse! Where do we berth? The rest was simple.
Craig doesn't want demons so I sprinkled a drop or two of Sister Philomena's holy water and "Poof!" it's gone. The mysterious eyes turned out to be a deer in the spotlights. Jetson is able to talk to it. The deer said that the storm toppled some power lines onto a dead tree and started a fire. The firemen are working to get it under control. He says that the whole herd of deer fled to the end of the island and are trapped there, along with other animals. He asks us to fetch Ark1 and rescue them before the fire burns them alive. Can we do it?
My heroine. Who does want demons.. other than a fellow demon. Ok lets rescue those stranded deer.. dear.......
"Ok", said Terence, "Let's rescue the trapped animals. Ark 1 it is. My gut tells me they kept to the east Coast of Roanoke. It's calmer there between the island and the bar, and we can travel faster along the Roanoke Island past Manteo town. Maybe into the SE Marshes spit reserve just a few miles south of the town? I think Jetson agrees the way he's wagging his tail. Who am I to argue? We might get some radio contact from Manteo and query as to the state of the Highway 64 causeway we'll have to cross by bridge or otherwise to save the animals. No doubt the marshes will be flooded with these massive high tides.. Raleigh city seemed under control with just a few big gas fires. There was some looting and shooting and Deputy Crow took a bullet but is recovering in the city's hospital.
Oh, dear! I hope Deputy Crow will be all right! After we rescue the animals, maybe we can help find the dastards who shot him. We edge Ark1 up near the shore and anchor it down. The townspeople agreed to let us use their trucks to carry the animals to the shoreline. Jetson and his new friend, the deer, tell the animals that we are here to help them. Soon we are on our way back to where we have anchored Ark1. They will be safe there until the fires are out. Then we can return them back to their habitat.
Jetson, with Fred's help, do a magnificent job of herding the animals into the trucks and then the Ark where they are safe. This mystified many of the kind people of Manteo with some calling it a miracle. They mentioned numerous missing persons too. Later an old Indian man told us about a gang of looters covered in blood led by a dark figure with glowing red eyes. A few lads laughed at that and him. Ignoring them, the old Indian said 'Deputy Crow will rejoin you soon cousin Shirley, he has recovered. Remember the artifact Shirley, one drop of your blood, it is your destiny.' Looking at Jetson herd animals he pointed saying 'good spirit dog'. Without turning, Jetson barked 'happy' and wagged his tail. Sister Bridget then heard Jetson's mind saying to her 'Long Snake is very old, kind and wise. You can trust him' Then old 'Long Snake' whispered the words 'Croatoan roam' and left disappearing quickly into the dark night with a slithering sound as he parted and closed the swamp's reeds behind himself. Only then did Shirley notice the strange rune etched silver dagger gripped tightly in her right hand. 'That's nice' said Terence looking at the shiny silver dagger gripping everyone's focus, in Shirley's tight gripped fist, especially given the faint blue glow it was emanating, 'where'd ya get it?' Bridget heard Jetson's mind think "it's from 'Long Snake', for curing zombies or killing demons, and other things. It's a sacred artifact made eons ago, like your big silver cross your White family passed onto you."
If am honest that word Croatoan does fascinate me. But not if it has anything to do with demons from Hades! Toss that dagger as far away into the water as you can manage Shirley. For all our sakes.......
Shirley, don't do it. You would dishonor your ancestors. What would Deputy Crow think, or Chief Flying Eagle or Long Snake who gave you the sacred relic? Long Snake is an old and powerful spirit I somehow know. Just a feeling. At least let me carry the relic or both of them, and return them to Deputy Crow in a Diplomatic way. Don't burn those bridges, it seems your ancestry chose you, for your pure heart. I am not worthy but at least let me carry and return that burden for you, please? Long Snake said Crow will return to us. Let me return the relics to Crow, he is a warrior. Or carry them and use them yourself, your heart will know what to do.
