Yes, do indeed get those nails trimmed/cut. With age comes sensitive skin that can bleed and bruise easily. Thanks for doing this! Cranberry will love you for this.

Cats can be trained to use the toilet, although I've never tried that.

Sounds like an adventure for the both of you.

I wonder if you'll get some catitude from her for a while for the ordeal.

We are back from the nail clipping and they tell me she was a good kitty and tolerated it well.

So how does Cranberry seem to be? Freaked out or OK?

She is just super. I just ordered soft nail caps on Amazon for her.

I just ordered one from Amazon. Seems like a very practical and convenient way to keep your cat well fed on a scheduled basis.

Yes, I have done that for a couple of decades. It works very well. I give them some canned food each day but, regardless, they always have kibble available to them.

I bought one in 2005 for my new cats. Not sure what you mean by “automatic,” mine is just a hopper, holds a couple of pounds or so.

I've always left out unlimited dry food for both dog and cat.

For some reason I got in the habit of feeding them canned food twice a day...in the AM and then when I got home from work.

I got brother and sister kittens in 2005, girl has been gone a year. Boy is still with me at 16½, doing about as well as I am.

Neither would bother with canned food, maybe take a few bites and that would be it. Fine with me! I filled the dried-food hopper once a week or less and that was all I had to do. :)

They grew up on Walmart's catfood, although when they got to be 10 or so I had to switch to Science Diet to help with "older cat" problems. Not cheap but they loved it!

I used to do volunteer work at an independent rescue.

-I came home with a puppy
-I came home with a kitten
    -I then quit

I fed them nothing but a local grocery store's house brand of dry & wet food their entire lives.
They both lived to be in their early 20s.

My male cat had piss problems when he got to be 10 or so. Vet said he had crystals in his bladder; with a female, passing them generally wasn't a problem for obvious reasons.

She said feed them Science Diet and he should be ok, and he is.

Interesting note: She stuck a needle in his bladder (he was about 16 lbs., fully clawed, and not happy) right in my living room. She had to wrap him up in a big towel and it took her a while to get everything situated, but she got it. Kind of amazing to watch.

Mine will have food released into the attached food dish at preset times.
