During this morning's Award Presentation Session, my Wife, Mary was one of 11 who received the coveted "Sprinkled Pink" Award.
Hat's off to Mary!!! ..Is the award edible? I meant to ask, what is an Orphan Donut? . .Baker's Eleven motion must have passed? So many questions and so little time ....
The Baker's Eleven motion was voted down by a narrow margin.....maybe next year? No, Mary's award is not edible, and the term "Orphan Doughnuts" refers to children from "12 children" families who have been orphaned for various reasons. The number is not as large as you may think, but they have real needs. The Foundation she works with raises money for school expenses, health care, clothing and gifts at Christmas. She works tirelessly at it, but is "sprinkled pink" for the privilege! The Riley's washed out of the Donut Eating Contest. Our stomachs were just not into it! So goes it.
Tonight's Keynote Speaker, Nigel Travis, former CEO of Dunkin' Brands will speak on "Why Your Employees Should Think About the Future". A video of the speech will not be available, but we caught up with Nigel earlier in the day as he was being interviewed about Jacob Morgan's new book "The Future Leader"! Nigel Travis has been an executive for a long time. He was the President and COO of Blockbuster, CEO of Papa John’s Pizza, and then CEO of Dunkin’ Brands. He has seen a lot and done a lot!
When he was the President and COO of Blockbuster, they had a chance to buy Netflix for $50 million, and passed. Today it is worth around $150 billion. Nobody's perfect.
We plan to pack up and hit the road, right after the playing of the National Anthem. See you back at home! 7 Year old Trumpeter Angel Gautreaux Performs National Anthem
Well, we are back home, reunited with Princess and Mouser! I swear I saw them licking the icing off our shoes.....but I might have dreamed it. We will spend today catching up at home, and re-open the shop tomorrow. It's good to be home.....funny, how "home" has become my favorite word.
