Some of the finest men I have ever known were Marine officers. This man standing up and realizing what he has risked says a lot.
All military people are taught to do as they are commanded to do without question which immediately puts Lt. Col. Schiller in a bad position by creating the video. That said, he’s not only standing up for what HE believes but he’s also standing up for the men and women under his command. Added to that and according to him, he’s also parroting what other Battalion Commanders are saying which to me is even more important in the long run. Only one standing up is an anomaly in itself but multiple Commanders who are just as concerned over the well being of those in their command gives some insight into what thousands of our active military men and women are feeling. Military wide, they’re ticked to say it mildly and the moral is probably the lowest that it has been in a half a century.
I guess technically we never pulled out of S. Korea but the ROK’s I experienced in the Nam didn’t need any training from the U.S. and as a matter of fact, our soldiers could have used some training from them. When the ROK’s were called to go into any area it was because every living thing needed to be annihilated. They were very efficient and deadly soldiers.
I had an ROK asssigned to me. He was a North Korean who had defected and had been in the Korean army since that time. I was suopposed to be training him but probably learned more from him than he did me. We were together nine months, ran many patrols together, Supplied underground bunkers manned by ROK soldiers well into NK territory. He spoke both dialects and could read trail like an old Calvary scout.
Dont think the Taliban would take the country back to this. (72) Fascinating Photos Of Afghanistan In The 1960s And 1970s - YouTube
It looks like we might be going into a hostage situation not unlike what happened in Iran during the Carter administration. That, combined with the old news that we froze a few billion dollars of Iran’s money in sanctions later on that was paid back in a hush fashion, in cash, by the Obama administration. I have yet to have it verified but one report I heard has the Taliban holding 2 bus loads of women and another article states that 7 bus loads of women were taken on their way to the evacuation site. Here’s the hostage part I first wrote about. It seems that the United States has frozen Billions of dollars of Afghanistan’s funds that the Taliban wants and will go to some pretty brutal lengths to get them. We’ll probably hear something a little more concrete by the end of the day but if indeed there were some women taken, if they haven’t already been “abused” and / or killed by ISIS or the Taliban then they will surely be used as hostages in a negotiation meant to get the money the U.S. has locked up.
Poor kids.... To watch the return of the thirteen Marines killed in Kabul was heart breaking. What else has to happen?
@Bobby Cole it also occurred to me after watching the colonel's video that perhaps this is part of a move to get people out of the military who would not follow any and all orders from superiors. Between the vaccine mandate and the Afghanistan fiasco, the U.S. military appears to be in an uproar.
As I expressed in one other thread, there is a big difference between fighting for one’s country and one’s government. A soldier takes and oath which makes him or her a servant to our country and Constitution and not necessarily to the prevailing government nor those who are militarily superior but languish under the umbrella of said government. I will always be ready to fight for my country but the present people in government who are placing a stranglehold on it’s citizens whilst defiling the Constitution are direct domestic enemies and should be treated as such.
Bobby I'm a opinionated person to a fault while I do try to work on it but not always successful. But in todays world its not a good idea to say how we feel out loud. People are being hunted down an put in jail now for expressing what was once known as free speech. We live in interesting times and have to be careful what we say. I vent and rant about things then think about what I said later aand actually get affraid sometimes that I may be on some kind of list or what ,So then enter paranoia. Just what I need somerhing lese to go along with all the other stuff. Antone else feel this way?
I do understand the way you feel and why, but to me, there is a very fine line between being cautious and living in fear. Whilst I am cautious about the way I phrase things I refuse to be afraid to say or write the truth. It’s when we start hiding and holding our voices that those in power know that they have won. Our forefathers didn’t hesitate to be heard and even though the majority of those who signed the Declaration of Independence suffered great losses and even their lives, our country benefited from those losses. My God, my family, my country, my flag and my freedom.
