This place is my only social medium. I was on others for a while and not necessarily senior ones, but eventually left.
When I go to doctor's visits, I constantly have to explain why I have no Emergency Contact to put down. Of course, they have to ask "Are you sure?" and go down the "You don't have any friends you can put down?" over and over, as though I'm too stupid to know and I'll suddenly cough up a name. The most recent one (Monday) the woman said "That's so sad." I wanted to belt her. I have a few friends who are married with lives of their own. They don't need to be burdened with that stuff.
Give them the number for the local EMS. (I would have said @Ken Anderson , but he has retired from riding the ambulance.)
The folks you do know, may be saddened by the fact that they did not mean enough to you, to least list one of them as a contact nbr. And, yes I find it sad that you feel you have nobody .
So far I have outlived a lot of my former friends (knock on wood). Others were through work but I'm retired. What little family I have have their own lives. I'm fine with it.
I have o problem putting down a contact in case of death. But I can't put someone else in the position of having to make decisions for a non-relative. Do you have people you could put in such a spot who are not spouse/relatives? And don't feel sad for me. Everything has a price, including the choices we make in life. I've made mine consciously and willingly.
and it's not easy to tell others...hey...I don't have an entourage of people....plus trying not to burden or bother others
Marci!! I can't believe I found your post, just what I needed to find out about, the Nintendo Game Console!! I'm thinking real serious about getting a Nintendo, but I wanted to find someone that was playing the game, and wanted to meet others for times I want to play "with" someone!! I hope you are still around the forum! I'll send a pm to you as well, Denise
