Harry and Tonto was a great movie, one of the best Carney ever appeared in. Hard to believe that his son was played by Larry Hagman. If you look deep into the cast it is full of well known actors from the 60s and 70s. I can remember being about 6 and watching the Jackie Gleason show, and Amos n Andy. Not to forget Milton Berle in the Texaco Star series. "Welcome to the show Ladies and Germs" ! heh The Red Skelton Show, loved his clown character.
Not movies exactly, but I am watching the February 9, 1964, the February 16, 1964, the February 23, 1964, and the September 12, 1965 episodes of the Ed Sullivan Show, which were the episodes that featured The Beatles. The DVD includes the full episodes, including the other acts that were on these nights, as well as the commercials. In real life, when The Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, I was about 12 1/2 years old. I watched the beginning of the show, which includes the first three Beatles songs. I watched the magician who came next, but then the cast of Oliver bored me so I went into my room, got involved with something else, and didn't come back for the rest of it, which included a couple of more Beatles songs.
My older brother was all excited by the Beatles first appearance. I wasn't interested and was annoyed because there was something on another channel I wanted to watch.
When they show the audience, all of the young girls are screaming, jumping up and down, or acting like they're about the faint, while the few guys who are in the audience look confused and maybe a little embarrassed, probably because their girlfriends are screaming, jumping up and down, or about to faint.
I remember thinking that their Moe haircuts looked silly and that they looked sillier still when they shook their heads. I imagine they were all embarrassed in later years by how their handlers made them behave back then.
I thought and still think, they were an odd fit for the Ed Sullivan Show. Even in the episodes that featured The Beatles, pretty much every other act was something that a Beatles audience wasn't likely to enjoy, and anyone who came for any of the other acts probably didn't know what to think about The Beatles.
I had a Mohair suit coat, and the boots of course. In that era my dream car was a Buick Wildcat / 425 nailhead with two factory 4bbl. Both of course were a Pipe Dream performed by the
Last night, watched Johnson Family Vacation with Cedric the Entertainer, Vanessa Williams, Bow Wow and Steve Harvey. Absolutely hilarious, but a person has to have a sense of humor for this movie.
Some of the time but not always, some are really good movies and although Hollyhoods may add drama or another agenda of theirs most of the time its fairly good movie. We watched and liked 'Man In The Chair' lots of older actors like Christopher Plumber in it. Another great movie was 'Something The Lord Made'. Lately a good one that was also free was 'Life Stinks'.
