Did anyone watch Sons of Liberty last night on History Channel? It's a 3 or 4 part mini-series. History Channel has produced another quality original program. It takes place in Boston, a few years before the Revolutionary War. imdb says

"The true story of a group of very different men fighting in the American Colonies for freedom, and how they will shape the future for the United States of America."

I thoroughly enjoyed part one, and am looking forward to the rest of the mini-series. It was well written and looks like a movie - not just another boring documentary. It tells the story from the "personal" point of view - it goes into the motivations and ideals that led these men to revolt. Well worth watching!

Yes! I saw last night's episode of Sons of Liberty. In my honest opinion though, I though it was a little plain, but other than that everything else looked great. I definitely would recommend other people to watch it as well!

I'm so glad that some of the cable channels are getting into original programming. It's refreshing to see something besides the usual cop/doctor/lawyer show. Cable channels don't seem to be as focused on huge ratings like the networks are, so they are able to produce "specialty" type programming - like this one with history.

If you'll remember though, this is what cable television was like in the beginning. When they first came out with cable, there was no advertising and, because it was paid television, there seemed to be an emphasis on quality. Once everyone switched from network to cable, the networks came to cable and many of the cable channels began running advertisements, and everything became focused on ratings. I'm wondering if this what we'll see with streaming television before long, that it'll become pretty much the same thing, only requiring Internet access.

I think that it almost has to. Somebody has to pay for quality programming - the networks aren't going to do it out of the goodness of their hearts. With more and more people watching shows streamed over the internet, the networks are going to have to figure out a way to make money. What I've afraid of, and I've already seen it on the network streaming sites (like NBC, CBS, etc) is the commercials are embedded in the show - you can't skip over them. Very annoying. So, as with a lot of things, I think it's going to come full circle - we're going to have programming with commercials that we can't skip - just like the good old days.

I would love to watch this. I saw a commercial for it and it sounded really good. Perhaps it will come out on Netflix or Amazon Prime in the fairly near future. I would also recommend that people rent "Monumental" a documentary by Kirk Cameron. It's free on Amazon Prime. It talks about the people that came over on the Mayflower and how our country got started. What people used to go through in order to be free to practice the principles found in the Bible is truly amazing.

Well, I finished the mini-series and have mixed feelings about it. Three episodes just wasn't enough to tell this extraordinary story. I liked that it focused on Sam Adams and told the story from the standpoint of Boston. But it didn't really go into the struggles with the Continental Congress. It just kind of showed them talking to a few delegates and then, poof - the Declaration was written, Congress passed it and George Washington goes to save Boston. And then ended. I mean, we all know how the story ends (England loses), but it just kind of left us hanging. Maybe, they'll continue the series at a later point.

Anyway, well worth watching - but not very comprehensive.
