What about suet .that was added (Grated) to pastry / fruit cakes / fruit puddings / scones/ dumplings ….and …and …..as well as being rendered down to use for everyday cooking then topped into the old sunshine milk tin to be used again and again.

Suet is made from the fat that surrounds the kidneys of animals (mostly cows and mutton).

I know people who still use it in rich Christmas puddings .

We also had fried bread cooked using the fat that had been used and used ,as well as spreading “dripping” …..( Fat)
On fresh bread adding a bit of salt and pepper to flavour the fat ….Well that how we lived ……..
I PUKE at the thought of it …..now days however we was so hungry as kids we would eat anything ( but cabbage for me)

That's interesting, the only place I've seen suet used is in bird seed blocks. It's used as an edible binder to hold the seeds together.

I have an Induction stove, which we bought several years ago when we updated appliances. It is all electric, but cooks like a gas stove. I love it! I don't think I can go back to any other stove.

Throw a spoonful or two of sour cream in your mashed potatoes- makes them extra creamy.
