Pit was finding out that a young woman that use to live here lost her husband on June 1st.. the day of his 30th birthday. Leaving behind her and three year old son. Hit a semi with his motorcycle. Do not have details. So very very sad. Not sure what my Peak for yesterday was.
Pit- We're filling in a pond that I put in over 20 years ago. I have 10 yards of topsoil sitting in the driveway waiting to be dumped into the pond. First my daughter and her husband are removing the rocks around the edge of the pond and those that made up the waterfall. I hate to see it go it brought a lot of years of enjoyment, I just can't take care of it any longer. I have 4 tubs of rock pieces from broken cement blocks, patio stepping blocks, garden bed edging blocks, that I want to dump into the pond hole rather have to haul to the dumps one day. I tried lifting one onto a wagon and knocked my neck. out. Getting old is a bummer. Peak- once the pond is filled and the area straightened out we intend to use it as a play area for our grandkids.
Ongoing pit: According to USPS "UNinformed Delivery", my new credit card was delivered 2 days ago. Nothing but air in my mailbox so more aggravation to deal with. Also, the card was paid off but is now showing nearly $1300 in "pending" charges. What the hell??? They supposedly cancelled that card on May 30. I have no way to see what's going on because I haven't received the new card and have no idea what the card number is. Also pitty: It's hotter than Hades outside and no rain forecast. This is going to be a hellish summer. And one more: Apparently we have an armadillo busy digging up the new landscaping we planted a couple of months ago. He is ruining the mulch and digging into the roots of the new hedges. GRRRRRRRR
Peak! Had a "negative" Covid test today. 11 days of positive tests and I was thinking I was never going to get over it. Yahoo!
A deer is going around the house eating everything. He denuded a new aronia bush, and bit off every bud on my lillies. And then my husband cut down my service berry tree thinking it was a box elder (?). This was about to be its best bearing year! Chipmunks have figured out how to squeeze out of live traps! Of course this is no where as horrible as Beth's cc problems. Peak! the sheep shearer is coming tomorrow before the next heat wave! And they are trained go in the stall when I call them! Hope I am fast enough to close the door. Shearers don't like to have to chase down sheep.
Pit: I got up this morning and my Ninja coffee maker took a poop. It was fine when I made a pot at 11PM last night. I called the company and confirmed that it has ceased to be...the issue is with the electronics, not scaling. I did not think it was still under warranty, so they offered a 30% discount on a replacement. The down side was (a) I had to pay $13 shipping, and (b) people have reported waiting weeks for Ninja factory delivery. I passed on the offer, then took a look at the date I downloaded the pdf manual and realized the machine is only 10 months old and still under warranty. I called back, but without a receipt I was out of luck. I drove to Walmart and bought another one. Other brands have lasted much longer, but I really like this machine and it's in the mid-to-high range of department store coffee maker prices, so I dropped $9 on my very first ever Product Protection Plan. (Timing is everything.) Peak #1: Walmart's website had a Roll Back Price that was not reflected on the shelf sticker ($13 difference), so I went to Customer Service to have them see what their system said before I got to a register and fought the battle there. Instead of just verifying the Walmart web price, the woman did a web search and came up with an Internet Best Price Match that saved me another $8 on top of the $13! (I'll have to remember that they do that.) Peak #2: A new 7-11 opened up by the interstate where Walmart, Lowes, etc are. (This is exciting stuff out here. The nearest other 7-11 is 15 miles away.) I have coupons they sent out for their grand opening, so after buying the coffee maker I went across the street and got a 1/4# hot dog and a bag of chips for free.
7-11 must be on a roll. I have noticed several brand-new "convenience" stores within a 10 mile radius of here.
Are they still Southland? (Didn't LBJ have a connection?) I recall living in Vienna when the 2nd 7-11 opened up and I thought it was crazy to have 2 of them, even though they were opposite ends of town. Eventually there were 5 or 6. (This is why I suck at investing.) Funny you should mention it, because WaWa just opened its first store in the region in Charlottesville. It this a post-COVID "no one wants to do sit-down dining" trend?
Sorry. I thought that living in Texas you might have known that 7-Eleven originated in Dallas under Southland Corp. The parent itself (Southland) changed its name to 7-Eleven in 1999. There have been subsequent ownership changes, but the Dallas guys still have their fingers in it. I thought for sure that LBJ (Lady Bird) had her hands in it (being a millionaire business lady in her own right), but can find no evidence of it. Dunno why I thought that. Probably some lame joke back in the day.
Peak: After a month of the marine service having our boat to "summerize" it (meaning hose clamps all reinstalled to hoses), we got it back yesterday. New trailer jack put on, that we had requested. Old one was really wobbly. New spark plugs put in and water tested on their lake behind service. Now, hopefully, we can get the full rpms that we should get and whiz across the lake. They had it for a month due to all the boats they had to "summerize" and our little spell of winter during the last of May. Pit: Will find out this AM, if wife's dentist will do her crown replacement. Just depends if he feels comfortable with her BP reading. She is now taking a prescription BP med, so we may have to wait until the med takes completely hold.
Pit- My wife is red like a lobster from the radiation treatment, and with heavy fatigue. Feeling like that is making her think she has cancer somewheres else. It's been hard for me and my daughter keep her spirits up. Worrying is starting to get me down, I don't sleep well so I'm tired. Looking forward to better days. Peak- today is her final treatment of radiation, she gets to ring the bell. The doctors have been telling her she should start feeling better in two to three weeks. This will be my final day of sitting in the hospital parking lot.... Hooray.
