Hey, girls! We could all get together and catheterize him. I bet he wouldn't complain about pain then. You think? ;):)

Keep in mind I got this offer in writing. ;)

Now I'm off to Walmart to buy a hi-rise toilet seat. It seems I can't poop with this thing in, and I don't want the hose hitting the water when I disconnect the bag. I hope it helps.

While I've not been using this for but a couple of days, apparently when you don't use your bladder muscles you start to lose the ability to poop...they're all interconnected. Maybe I need to revisit my self-cath aversion.

I won't ask for offers of assistance on this one. A bridge too far, etc.

Eek made me feel queasy reading that stuff …. wish you luck @John Brunner
On the side funny of things it’s just as well you have all of us cheerful ladies to support you along the way :):D

My hubby was getting up a dozen times a night so I got him some pills from Australian natural care for mild prostrate enlargement / frequent trips to the loo and now he rarely gets up during the night after taking them for about 9-12 months

Actually, I was fishing for advice. I've only worn a catheter once (25 years ago) and this did not happen. Apparently it might "after extended use," but I just hit the 48 hour mark.

If it were a prostate issue, there would be a variety of solutions. This is weak bladder muscles...too weak to squeeze things out (it takes more than gravity.) As of now there are no treatments to actually fix the bladder.

Not to scare you … ..I know 2 in dancing world who had temporary catheters that turned into a must have 24 hours day for life …..and other who had it in his 40 ‘s for a week after surgery ….Nah he had it till he died at 45 from an kidney infection .

I’ve had them for a couple of days ..it takes ages before you can get the bladder to cooperate to go naturally after the catheter.

HOWEVER despite all I dribbled on about please take your Dr advice for your issue @John Brunner cause every one is different

Advice given to some women to completely empty bladder is to go as much as you can …get up and stand for a minute ….sit again ….

This was not really my doctor's advice, it was their emergency crew's doing late Friday afternoon. Since I was at 900ml, they really had no choice other than to just give me antibiotics and hope that would work. I'm of two minds on this: one is what you said, and the other is that in the long run it might help to give my bladder a break from being constantly stretched...and since retention causes sediment to build up (which can lead to a stone), this will get rid of any that is in there.
