I'm not sure what they play; six of them meet once or twice a week to play.

SIL is "only" 68 and pretty active; probably weighs 95 pounds soaking wet. They have 3 acres and she's an enthusiastic gardener... always outside. Unfortunately she has been diagnosed with the early signs of dementia so my BIL has to keep a close eye on her.

Every year in the mid fifties Grandmother would go out in the back yard pick all the figs and bring them in and can fig jam. It was the old fashioned way, boil the mason jars, then pour the jam in and finally pour the wax on top and let it set before closing the jar. We also had those hard pears which aren't good for anything but pie and jam but nothing was wasted. It seemed like every person in the neighborhood had some type of fruit trees. We had one huge pecan tree in the front yard and over 60 years later it is still there twice as tall as it was in 56. Grandmother would go out and make a torch on the end of a long cane fishing pole and burn any worm nest in the tree. Life was good, I honestly believe few young people living today have lived as good a life as back then.

@Beth Gallagher If 6 players, it is a layout game in which there are many variations. I think each group of players in Texas makes up their own rules. Texas 42 is a partner game with 4 players where you take tricks.

I don't think they play partners but I'm not interested enough to ask. :D Sometimes some of the players don't show up.

That sounds like the traditional layout dominos. Men used to gather in the back room of East Texas small town filling stations and play. My great aunt said she encouraged it because it gave her some alone time even though she knew it was for cigar smoking, beer drinking, and ogling the Playboy centerfolds they had covering the walls, it was better than the bars where women of questionable reputation might be working.

It is great your hubs spends this time with family and friends. Sounds like a win win for you both.

Pit-- spent all morning and half of the afternoon in the parking lot at Sloan Kettering while my wife was getting a treatment. Usually I can pick up the hospital's Wi-Fi in the parking lot but not today, so I spent the time listening to music on CD's.

Peak-- my daughter defrosted a turkey we had Frozen we are having it tonight for dinner with all the sides.
    Looking forward to it.

You don't have to read this, I just need to get it off of my chest.

    Pits:

    (1) Could not sleep last night. Had a UTI since yesterday afternoon that constantly made me feel as though I had to pee (which is impossible 'cause I'm catheterized.) I could not get in to see my GP (UVA Health is trashing the GP side of their business.) Went to an Urgent Care clinic (my urologist is a 2 hour round trip) and got antibiotics. They started working right away and I took a 3 hour snooze. The cool damp rainy day made it perfect for a nap.

    (2) Took my truck in before the clinic visit to get it inspected, there's a ton of stuff wrong with it: tie rod ends, brakes all around, worn drive belt, something else. They left a message for me to call to get the estimate, but I did not feel like bad news, so I'll call them back tomorrow. I gotta tell them that my truck has a parasitic draw and you gotta pull a couple of fuses if it sits overnight...I don't know how that will fly. It's weird because this same place inspected my truck last year and it passed, and I put maybe 400 miles/year on it. But it also has 135,000 on it, so I'm sure the issues are legit.

    (3) I still have to get rear brakes/rotors and tires on my car, and I don't trust the dealer and I don't trust the independent guys to work on the technology, and Biden has driven the price of tires sky-high.

    (4) I still have three living relatives that hang over my head in one way or another (Since I'm bitching I had to get that out.)

    Peak(s):

    (1) My life is turning into a country western song, and I'm glad I don't have a dog or the innocent thing would likely get caught up in it somehow.

    (2) I told a couple of folks here about my med issues, and I've got plenty of offers of rides & such.

Let it all out, many of us are here listening, I'll read every line I may not understand everything but I get your drift, you're going through a lot.
I'm glad you were able to get some sleep, I hope the antibiotics work and you'll continue to get to sleep and rest you need.
Do you need the truck? Can it wait until you are feeling better?
I wish I could help, take things one step at a time, don't push.
You're in my thoughts and prayers hang in there.

As you are in mine, Tony.

The truck is a necessity because we take our trash to drop off centers here...there is no pick up. I cannot haul stinky garbage bags in my car. I could get my neighbor to take them for me. He works for a private transfer station and takes his own in there, and would be glad to help me.

Since I won't be working on the truck myself (those days are gone) it's mostly a matter of getting a ride back to my place after dropping it off, and then the ride to pick it up (and writing the check.) I think getting it done will be a relief and will be one less thing hanging over my head. Maybe I'll have them look at that electrical issue while they've got it.

Getting it fixed will be a relief, then you'll have truck use for a while.

First off let me just say I hope everyone dealing with health issues feel better real soon.

Pit of this day early the 16th, it is still hot at 4am when I mistakenly got up thinking it was later. The cats are a good alarm clock but something happened yesterday where all three spent the night in my room and were not acting like kids. Even the little trouble maker snuggie was quiet and slept all night long next to my TV. Well I got up and fed the homesteaders here inside but my two waifs outside have not shown up so early. The one black cat with four white booties has not been around but 1 out of 3 days and she has had another litter nearby. I plan on putting out a gallon of fresh water in an ice cream bucket as soon as it is light. There is still plenty of water standing which is usually the case this time of year but fresh water when it is cool is almost as good as eating. My peak will be later today and it has to be both air conditioners are still humming right along as good as they are this morning.
