For all those that said Catcher in the Rye - congrats.

On December 8, 1980, Mark Chapman shot John Lennon, remaining at the site, reading J. D. Salinger's Catcher in the Rye until the police arrived and arrested him. He said that the novel was his statement and that his life mirrored that of Holden Caulfield, the protagonist of the book.

I'll go with Teddy Roosevelt - he seemed the kind to drink expensive wine, but not so sure he was a cheapskate!

    Give us a little hint??

Better late than never Mal [IMG]

    quote.

Mark David Chapman, the young assassin, was carrying two things with him when he shot and killed John Lennon on the steps of the Dakota apartments in Manhattan: a pistol and a paperback copy of The Catcher in the Rye. The function of the pistol was obvious. Less obvious was the function of J. D. Salinger's novel
