Whenever I say we are having burgers on the BBQ, I ALWAYS mean without the bun.. I NEVER have as bun with my burger ..... NEVER........
Tonight we are having Citrus Pepper salmon fillets, french cut green beans, cheesy broccolic macaroni and garlic cheesy shrimp breads.
Most of the time when we have burgers we don't have them on buns. We call them hamburger steaks, usually smothered in sautéed onions. But once in a while we'll have them on buns as regular hamburgers. French fries are sure good with them then.
I just call them hamburger patties. When I was growing up my parents both worked..if my dad got home first we started dinner. I peeled potatoes for mashing and put canned biscuits on the baking sheet. My dad would fry the hamburger patties and open a can of green beans..and throw a slice of bacon in the pot. It's funny how many years later I look back on these times with him as precious. The dinner I described above was called "Johnny's Special" by all the family. Thanks for letting me share that..your posts about "burgers" brought back this memory.
What a sweet, tender memory, Karen. My dad (John) was also called Johnny and you brought him into my mind frying bacon and perking coffee on Saturday mornings. Whistling. Thanks.
I won't mention the memories I have of my father. Not one good one in the whole bunch. I do have some kitchen memories of him though. One was when I was about 6 and we had a gas stove that had to be lit with a match when you turned the gas on. One morning he told me to light the stove. I was afraid of getting burnt. I couldn't do it, he stood next to me making me light match after match. Took for ever for me to finally light it and then I got hit with the belt for crying. Another time I was older, in my teens and I was peeling a pear because it was kind of bruised, he saw me and noticed I was peeling the skin off too thickly, took the pear and mushed it on my head and walked away. Sorry guys, a downer but feels good to get it out.
I grocery shopped today and have another soup started and chicken breast marinating to grill for chicken Caesar salad which GS loves. Also, I have 6 lovely, center cut lamb chops to broil, which GS also loves. It can go either way. If he comes home with a buddy I have enough chicken, but not enough lamb chops. Not sure on sides yet.
I love spaghetti, all shapes of pasta but I can't eat much of simple carbs. Dig in Sheldon, you lucky man!
