It has not snowed this early since I have lived in Wisconsin, that I can remember. It was 30 degrees when I first saw it and now it is gone. But it was at least half an inch.
After a day of mild temps and lots of rain, it has turned quite cold. Frost last night. Leaves are suddenly turning color now.
It is barely 43 (feels like 36) here and supposed to be down to 28 by tonight. This is early in the season for us to have a freeze this low, we often still have tomatoes producing until well into November. I went out and gathered all of the green and red tomatoes yesterday, and brought them in, and the other day, I dug up my little sweet potato harvest. We went to the thrift store yesterday and I found some warmer clothing for winter, so we are getting prepared.
As Yvonne alluded to, it’s cold…..derned cold. I hate the cold. I go into hypothermia just thinking about cold. There is nothing I can think of that has the word cold in it that I like. If something is meant to be cold, the word doesn’t even need to be there. Cold is rarely associated with something good. A cold shoulder isn’t good. A cold stare isn’t good. A cold spouse isn’t good. A cold solder isn’t good. A cold engine isn’t good. Cold food that is supposed to be hot isn’t good. Cold feet isn’t good. Polar bears aren’t good because they’re cold. A cold shower is rarely a good thing because it is generally taken when someone else is cold. In short, cold weather isn’t good…..not good at all !!
Maybe you should join @Martin Alonzo down in the Dominican Republic, or move to Hawaii. Little cold in either place except the mountains of Hawaii in mid-winter.
Can’t afford any place to live in Hawaii and folks are migrating here from the D.R. In all actuality, there are a lot of negative aspects about anywhere else too so we might as well stay here and hibernate. That said, I’m definitely going to finish the steam room / sauna behind my shop and replace all the ducting under the house so the central A/C can work that is, if natural gas prices go down again.
I am sorry Bobby. I didn't know what else to do with the snow so I pitched the cold over the Wisconsin border. Thought it would go into lake Michigan. Didn't realize I was strong enough it would end up at your house. Warmer air coming.
It's not unusual for south Texas to have a night or two in the 40's during October. We can depend on it going back up to 90 in a day or two. I think the average nightly temp in October is around 60. We typically don't see freezing weather until January, if at all.
Gonna be 32°F tonight, and 30°F tomorrow night and Thursday night. I lit the wood stove a few minutes ago. My wood stove threshold is around 40°F mainly because that's where heat pump efficiency starts to fall off, and the noisy blower is right under the bedroom floor. So the wood stove keeps the heat pump from turning on, keeping things real quiet all night. Overnight lows will be back in the 50s this time next week. It will not be until November when I can count on it being consistently cold enough for the wood stove being continuously on to some degree or another. Until then, I gotta keep kindling on hand.
