Goodness it is lovely going into November. One more week of sweater weather. I was just telling daughter, when we got married, November 3, the weather was like this, early summer. Just lovely. Later that year, we had the worst blizzard that I can remember, In Wisconsin.
Left Missouri yesterday. 78 F. and arrived home this morning: 17 F. and snowing. Wife asked "Why did we leave Missouri?". Not enough snow to plow yet though. The "real" lakes are frozen and folks are skating and some are snowmobiling on them as there isn't enough snow to go overland at low elevations yet.
50 with the sun out today. Yesterday was dark, gloomy, and cold, with heavy rains. First big freeze tonight.
Getting ready for some snow tomorrow evening. Hoping, and wishing, this is our last winter here. Jerry Reed's song "Southbound and Down" is our new song for next summer.
@Hedi Mitchell -- I just saw a report of severe weather headed for central/north Texas tomorrow, as well as OK, LA and AR. Hope y'all aren't in the path of that mess.
It's been rainy here, and kind of nippy on the wet days, but we've also had a few pretty warm days over the past week or so. By warm, I mean maybe the 70s.
We got 4-5 inches of snow and I plowed the driveway for the first time this fall. Anchorage just changed school superintendents and got one from Texas. He called off school for 5 inches of snow. Wife met one of our friends who is a teacher in the grocery store. He didn't expect a snow day with so little snow. Wife told him he would be going to work all summer to make up for snow days if that keeps up.
That's going to be a fun winter. Come to think of it, here they seem to call off school for the first snow that's more than a sprinkling, kind of like someone forgot that this it snows in the winter and they had to send the white stuff in for analysis before deciding whether it's safe to expose children to it.
We've been unseasonably warm so far (nearly 10°F above average), with no real chilly evenings in sight in the 10 day forecast. Monday is gonna hit 80°F!!! Don't know when we'll start seeing freezing temps...or even temps in the 30s. I gotta think that this is a late date for you to be getting your first snow (or have you already said so and I forgot?)
It isn't our first snow, and this isn't too bad for the "permanent snow" that will last until April. We have had several light snows already, but they melted. This snowfall looks like it will last all winter and into spring. We'll see.... Another storm is coming over from Siberia this weekend. We can still get around without snowshoes or skis...or snowmachine. It gets a bit depressing now when we can't walk the property. We had a moose come through yesterday and take out the fence charger for the electric fence protecting the orchard. Bull moose in rut can be terribly destructive. I hope this guy doesn't stick around to raise cain.
