I just purchased 1 lb. of thinly sliced corned beef from the deli at our local supermarket and the cost was $17.99.
Since when did cheap cold cuts elevate to what Italian prosciutto and Nova Scotia lox use to sell for?

The price of salami will go back down on January 3rd, 2023. I believe that's a Tuesday. You might want to give it one day, Wednesday.

All the deli items have gone up in price. Although I don't do it very often, I am now glad I know how to make potato salad and cole slaw and have potatoes and cabbage ready. Will be trying to be more self sufficient than I was.

    I can't believe $18 for cold cuts.

The last time I bought eggs they were $.78 a doz at aldi. Today I went to Kwik Trip and they were $3.58 wiith a limit of 5 per customer. (which means that was a good deal)
I went to the cashier and asked if they had any powerballs left. The kid looked at me incredulously and looked like he was trying to stifle a laugh at the old woman and finally said yes.
I will need to win if the chickens keep laying outside.

When the Aldi in my region opened, eggs were under $1/dozen and they have gone up to over $3/dozen. I've been buying fresh eggs from a local gut for $2.50/dozen for quite a while.

Regarding Powerball...I'm glad they weren't out of tickets. ;) I wonder what the jackpot will actually be after all this activity. I guess the next drawing is Wednesday evening. I might buy a ticket and hope I win a "smaller" prize.

Us local guts are paying more and more for feed which might raise the price too. I saw a youtube on diy feed and one ingredient was ground nettle leaves which sounded like a good idea for a winter vitamin source. I put a lot of nettle on stems up to dry so might see if the chickies will eat it.
No, there is no sting in dried nettle.
Good news. I did not win. Thus I don't have to throw up or leave.

My understanding is that for decent eggs (I don't know about edible meat), there has to be a given % of protein. At least, that's what the guts on Backyardchickens tell me.

It is ok. There is other stuff in the mix and mostly they will have to clean up their beef stew first.
I laughed when they had an ad on tv for eggs saying their feed was all vegan. That is not all chickens want. I saw my flock chase down a mouse and fight over eating rights. My rooster ran off to try to eat a frog in peace.
I don't see the ad anymore.

This is something that has had me wondering for a while, because in the Bible, it talks about clean and unclean birds to eat or not eat. The unclean ones seem to be birds that eat meat as well as plant foods. Chickens are considered clean, but anyone who has had chickens knows that they will happily chase after a mouse or frog to eat when they are let loose and can do this.
