I figure it won't hurt if I'm careful and it may help. Doctor's wear them in operating rooms.

That's so you can't accurately identify them in court.

I was in the emergency room a couple of weeks ago and it was filled with people coughing the most horrible sounding coughs. There were some people who had their masks below their nose and chin. There was a little girl about 7/8 feet from us who had a deep, croupy cough. She pulled her mask down to cough. You can bet your sweet bippy I wore my mask. That room had to be filled with viruses. And I also asked the workers for hand sanitizer every time I touched something.

At the risk of being redundant and repeating myself, I've commented here on a nasal spray and mouthwash to use immediately after exposure like that. I had to go to Lab Corp to have blood drawn and took my nasal spray with me.

We wear them in the O.R. for the patient's protection, Marie, not ours.

My point was if it was some protection from the spread of germs. Lois, I knew why the doctors wore them.;)

I have a question for those of you who have worn masks regularly. When you have to cough or sneeze, do you sneeze into the mask or do you remove the mask in order to sneeze?

My observations are that nearly everyone removes the mask when they have to cough or sneeze, which sort of negates any value in preventing transmissions, if there ever was any. Do you cough or sneeze into your mask? If so, that's kind of disgusting and probably unhealthy.

I am asking this because a lady who sniffled and coughed. up a storm on the train today did so without removing her mask, and it kind of made me want to puke.

I believe you are supposed to sneeze or cough into the mask and change the mask promptly thereafter. Taking off the mask negates the purpose of wearing it as you have said.

She did that from NYC to Washington, DC. Her mask should probably be declared a hazmat zone.

Nearly everyone who boarded in NYC was wearing masks and several of them were coughing. Prior to NYC, very few people were wearing masks.

That's easy, I just pull up my blouse and put my face in into it. Pull my mask down while I sneeze or cough. If I'm sick I won't go anywhere unless I have to go to er which is very seldom. We caught a terrible super cold at grocery store and ended up a week later in er not being able to breath.TYest revealed no flu or visus, just inflammation.
