I did that once, shortly after graduating from high school. At that time, at the Menominee Marina in Menominee, Michigan, they would cut two large holes in the ice on Lake Michigan, and participants would dive into one hole, swim under a short stretch of ice, and come up in the second hole. I think they had a net or something to keep people from overshooting the second hole. I don't remember for sure because I didn't overshoot the second hole.
In Stone Mountain Ga, we had some hard freezes every so often. We kids would play on the ice in the shallow part of the lake and sometimes fall thru the ice where water was deeper. My brother and I got stuck under the ice once, but he finally found a way out, that was very frightening. We were more careful after that.
It is wonderful to see you here again, @Martin Alonzo , I have missed you ! ! My kids post pictures of their snow out west, and i am thankful that I am not living in snow anymore, too. Just looking at the picture makes me shiver. Are you on twitter ? If so, give me your handle so I can follow you. Mine is Happyflowerlady, if you want to follow me there. Such a lot happening since Elon Musk has taken over the company !
Our snow had all melted and washed away in three days of 40-50 degree weather and two days of rain before we left on our trip.
We still have snow and more is predicted beginning on Monday. I have always thought that if it must be cold, it should be snowing. The snow makes the world so much brighter in the winter.
Its beautiful till the shivering starts, huh? I'd like to see the winter wonderland one more time but probably ain't gonna happen.
Snowing here today and quite heavy. After living in deep snow country 80% of my life, I am not amused. My love affair with snow ended abruptly when I quit downhill skiing.
I love its quiet muffling effect. One would think that sound would bounce off of it, but I guess it must be porous and act as baffles.
i've been contemplating design scenarios for constructing this year's builds... target locations will be central wisconsin and the upper peninsula of michigan.
