Global Warming... global cooling, The nerfballs on the news make me nuts. The climate of this earth CHANGES and I am so glad you have the snow and I don't. We actually have a good rain going here, in December! But next week we are expecting below zero to start. Now I can start worrying about a drought next summer because below zero here doesn't usually produce a lot of snow.
But if it does it will be a DRY snow.

We who live in the North have to expect these things, but it sure gets hard as we age. 20 years ago, I would have been delighted to have all this. Son and family are coming over this afternoon to clear roofs and have dinner.

There's gonna be freezing rain tonight in the western part of my county and points north & west of me. Schools in the mountains have already announced closings for tomorrow, other counties (including mine) have announced delayed openings. It's supposed to barely hit freezing for a few hours, but in the country there are always cold pockets (my place is habitually under the forecast lows.)

Earlier this week they were forecasting freezing rain into Friday morning for my area, but now they say the rain's gonna stop by late tomorrow afternoon...and again, tomorrow's lows are supposed to be 32°F, so it's not gonna be a hard freeze for whatever is left on the roads. I have a doctor's appointment Friday AM, but it's east of me where only rain is forecast and the interstate is pretty close to my house.

We, too, are in a low pocket/microclimate and have some of the lowest temperatures in the area. It is now 14 F. and snowing heavily.

We may get a handful of days/year at those temps or lower. Sunday will be 19°F.

I just looked...average lows for today & yesterday are 32°F. Record lows are 9°F and 8°F. Dunno what years. Of course, you don't need to go too far south & west (towards the mountains/away from the ocean) to drive those numbers down.

We actually got snow last nite. 2-3inches of heavy slushy mess that my poor hubby tried to snow blow. When I left he was going to retrieve a utensil to scoop out the shoot. I expected to come home to him shy one hand.
    Our only rule, no nagging.
    Big mistake.

We got another 10 to 12 inches of snow last night. Wife has to go to church this morning, so I hope she can get out. We have temporarily given up using her car and are relying on my old truck to get around. 5 feet of snow in a little over a week is unusual, especially for this time of year. There was a semi-on semi head-on collision overnight up the road a few miles. At least one dead and the only road between Anchorage and Fairbanks will be closed most of the day to clear wreckage. According to forecaster, we should have at least a week of clear weather now to allow us to clear some of this mess. I don't know what we would have done if son and family had not come over to clear snow from roofs of the outbuildings. If wwe get clear weather, we will start on the house roof and perhaps the main shed.

I underestimated. We measured the new snow at 14 inches. When my wife went to leave for church, she got stuck when she steered into a berm. I had to pull her out with the tractor and she went on her way. She contacted the plow company who usually plows the church parking lot, and they were delayed plowing for ambulances responding to 911 calls. I think they finally got there though, as they are a very good, reliable company and a delight to work with.

It's kind of warm here. We had a little snow yesterday or maybe the day before, but it didn't hold.

It's been the cliché cold, rainy winter's day here. A steady chilly rain with temps staying in the 30s. It makes all the hassle of managing a wood stove worthwhile.

Weather Channel says a cold front moving in just before Christmas, and we are down to 11 at night , for at least one of those nights. It said rain earlier that day, so we could end up with an ice storm from freezing rain, or at least very icy roads.

Ice storms are even worse than heavy snow. Good luck and get stocked up on essentials in case the lines are down.

I thought you were in the south? How the heck do you get down to 11°?
