Don't know...just a prediction. The wind has picked up just a little, so the wind chill goes down a little and the real temp comes up a little. We'll see by morning.

7 degrees at 7AM (Sunday). The ARTIC BLAST will hit us the middle of next week when the morning temperature will be minus 10 and daytime high 22, with some snow. Then, after a couple of days, it's all gone. Christmas Day will be around 50 and, most likely, depending on how much snow we get in the middle of the week, will have snow on the ground for Christmas. Many people in Denver metro want that, but not us anymore. 15 plus years ago, it didn't bother us, but now, totally different.

Didn't make -40; only -26 F. this morning and my wife finally got her car out the driveway.

It is, but I always found a dividing line at -30 F. When we moved from Georgia to Alaska, one man told us that once you have experienced +20 F. it doesn't matter, because you can't get any colder than that, and +20 or -20 didn't make any difference. He obviously had never experienced -20 F. -30 F. seems to be the temperature at which breathing becomes difficult without a face covering, especially with exertion.

Here in the UK we've had snow, ice, sleet, rain, icy cold wind and temps below minus, oh and I'm loving it (. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)

It was 32 this morning but I managed to stay in bed until 7 and got up to make coffee and my water was running very fast for a minute then it started to slow down, a sure sign somewhere in the line was starting to freeze. It never hit freezing soon enough to freeze. Now this Thursday night the arctic blast will come down like a steam roller. They are predicting temperatures that could reach single digit numbers. That is extremely cold for this part of the country. If it does go down that far I will have to run water in a heavy stream. I have lived in this barn for almost 15 years and the lowest I saw was 14 and I had busted pipes even running the water on what one might think a good stream. It wasn't and I was without water for 3 days before I could get the burst pipes repaired. It didn't cost much but it's the idea I was without my coffee water. I made contingency plans tonight, first on the list is to get gallon jugs of water drawn just in case. I have lots of those juice bottles and plastic containers for coffee. With 3 cats indoors and 5 counting the mother cat coming into the bathroom to stay warm, it would take a lot of water to keep all of them happy. I do plan on running that water as strong as needed to keep it from freezing the pipes.

There will be 2 to 3 days that do not reach above freezing so that is a very bad sign. Wind too they say so I will go out tomorrow after I make my store run and then cover my radiator on the truck and pull it up close to the window so that wind won't have a clear target, it is coming from the north east so that is good the truck will be on the far west end. I can't remember how much antifreeze I put in the radiator but with an old comforter laid out on the front and back of the radiator will be enough to keep it from freezing. I don't want to drain the radiator because if I need to crank it and go to the store I might not have water.

There was a time anti freeze was dirt cheap until all the gouging started in the 90s, working in the dealers like I did for years I had as much as 10 gallons under my work bench which I would usually just throw into the dumpsters to get it out of the way. Today you need a bank loan to buy a gallon of that watered down crap they call antifreeze.

I have some nice square size Styrofoam sheets and I plan on placing them in this bedroom window so it keeps the air out. When they say it will not be above freezing a couple of days I know it is going to be cold and like I said with wind the first night and day when it arrives. I feel sure the little kittens will be fine, pretty sure they have been spending a lot of time in their ice chest but with freezing winds they will all come into the bathroom where there will be heat. They like to curl up in the front of the heater and stay warm. I can hear them at night playing marbles ;0) All I have to say is they better be tough this coming week. I always feed them a warm breakfast when the cold is bad. I just put it on a large plate and microwave it about 1 minute then I mash it up with a fork. It's much like slopping hogs and when I open the bathroom door I have to grab the washing machine to keep from being ran over. All of you that are well North East of me you stay warm and safe and hunker down, and I hope you have a good Christmas. This is one of those times I wish the weather people were wrong again and it turns out to be a dud !

We are also getting that arctic blast later in the week (Thurs - Sat). It's supposed to get down into the teens. All I can say is, the power had better stay on this time!!!

Arctic blast coming through this weekend. Below zero and 30 mile an hour winds plus a little snow. Will have to dig out the barn door every time I go to feed/water.
    Whose Idea WAS this?

the little feral cats we built the shelter for have a thermostat control bulb overhead..comes back on at 35 degrees...off at 45..
i worry about them...shelter is closed in as possible...they had to have small exits...
when i bring hot food to them...my husband put a stump for me to sit on to get underneath with bowls...hot water too..

-32 F. this morning. Still not the -40 that some predicted, but dang cold anyway. Son's families were out over the weekend and snow has been moved so wife's car can get out, and she has gone to a flower arranging party this morning. My truck got unplugged during the snow moving, so it will have to heat up at least two hours before it feels good about starting. It would be noce if it would warm into the 20s F., but if it does, it will probably bring more snow...groan....

What kind of Truck do you have? I read a piece years ago about living in Siberia and they stated the local truck drivers or owners of commercial trucks would slide a shallow pan of oil and light it under the oil pan to get the oil warm enough to circulate. Of course if you are driving a reasonably newer Truck the light oil certainly helps with the severe cold. For that reason decades ago Ford went to ATX oil in all their standard transmissions and trans axles. They were getting a lot of complaints about their vehicles not shifting because they were so stiff. It helped but produced more problems with oil leaks and transmission failures due to their not using forged gears or components any longer. Old stuff is still the best as long as it gets some maintenance every once in a while. I have repaired Ranger pickup transmissions that the input gear has grind ed so bad the teeth were totally gone from the gear. You wouldn't believe how bad they were, and yet owners continued to drive them until there was no contact left with the main shaft, unless it had welded itself in place, and they can do that.
