Your day was better than mine. I picked up my new cpu this morning and came home and started the long process of repairing this good computer. I was really hurting in my knees and back and neck and finally finished with the start procedure only to see a completely dead computer. Every thing is new on the computer, motherboard cpu and the good PSU that was bought on the initial build two years ago. Now I have a 24 pin power connector test plug and got no response with that so I can only assume when the processor shorted out it took out the power supply protection. I opened up the power supply hoping to spot a fuse but they must be using a fuse resistor. I thought long and hard about taking the one from the same machine I took the RAM just to get this thing up and running again. I thought better than that knowing how easy it is to cause more problems when you start swapping parts from computer to computer. This mother board is new, the cpu and the Ram as well. If that power supply is working the fans on the case should be spinning, I got nothing. So I will order a new power supply at the end of the month and try again. I plan on buying the same brand same PSU, there was no trouble with it at all until that socket on the motherboard went screwy and it was already taking out my new joysticks and ram sticks. Funny thing is that I could still use the machine as long as I didn't plug any devices into the USB ports. Then it finally went into a death throe and started shutting down by itself. I thought maybe windows 10 had hosed my graphics drivers again but it wasn't that it was much more serious. I just bought all AMD to get it running again and that way I now have 3 AMD pretty solid computers. I have not used the two new ones very much at all. I noticed a good amount of dust in the one I took the ram from to borrow for this new repair. It must be just idle dust build up because I haven't ran that machine for a half a year or longer, I have limited desktop space so I hesitate to use those two good machine and I continue to use my old win7 work horse. I am looking forward to buying another blank closet door and make another work desk on the other side of the room and spread my stuff out so I have more room. Hopefully by next winter I will have moved back into my middle bedroom because it is much nicer in there and easy to keep warm.
Yeah, I bought some 32 gig drives from Amazon fairly cheap but then I found a good 2 TB for a central storage drive. In that way, I can mix and move music from the 2TB onto a smaller drive, throw it into the preamp and listen all day. For a good multi-purpose drive, I bought a couple of 28 gig Sandiscs that have the drivers on the sticks that can be installed if a particular format doesn’t recognize the drive as is.
Was going to do a separate thread for this, but since this is the "rant" thread, will put it here: This last November (2022), we bought a new full boat cover, that goes from the front to the rear, from the same company we bought our last one from. It took a month, and a couple of calls, to get it from NY. Don't know what happened, but last Friday, we got another one, same kind with same order number. I've called twice to let them know they sent us two and we need a Return Authorization and Pre-Paid Shipping to get this other back to them. Don't know if it's because of Christmas, but they seem to be dragging their feet in sending us, thru e-mail, the RA and Pre-Paid Shipping label (to print out). We have not been charged for the second one, but, to a point, they act like they don't want it back. We never opened the box. So, after thinking about it, I told my wife that we could always return it to them as "Collect". That would mean they'd have to pay the shipping cost before taking the box. If they refuse to pay the "Collect" shipping cost, we will get it back. Don't need it or want it, but.
Daggone Walmart rearranged the coffee aisle and they've jammed all the variations of 8 O'Clock coffee to 2 faces on a shallow shelf. There used to be 2 faces of each flavor and now there is none in stock because they went from nearly 30 bags down to 6. Online prices are nearly triple the in-store price ($39 versus $15 for the 2.5# bags of regular roast whole bean.) The nearest other 2 stores are 30 miles away, and only one of them has any "In Stock." It could be just one bag. The margin on Starbucks & Dunkin Donuts can't be better than 8 O'Clock. Daggoneit. I'm not driving 30 miles for one bag of coffee. To make matters worse, I just resurrected my Coffee spreadsheet from the last time I shopped around. At the time, 8 O'Clock was 27¢/oz. Now it's 41¢/oz. sigh
Sometimes, Amazon is competitive on coffee prices. Bobby HAS to have his McCafe Columbian, and for some reason , now it is cheaper by the can in the Walmart store, but cheaper for his little K-cups on Amazon. It used to be that the can of coffee was the same both places, but the Amazon one took a big jump in price. If walmart is shipping something, then the price is sometimes ridiculously high, so match that I can’t imagine they sell it at all, or the information is wrong. The delivery seems to be the same as on the shelf though.
When referring to a delivery - what does 'on it's way' mean ? According to the delivery company handling my parcel - it means 'hasn't left the depot yet' ! Not what I wanted to find out after being stuck in my living room all day waiting for it to arrive some time between 8am and 8pm. Because I'm hard of hearing I had to stay mostly in the living room in case I missed their knock on the door. Now have to hope it arrives tomorrow.
Reminds me of two geezers in an outhouse. Geezer one was already sitting doing his chores and geezer 2 was dropping his pants when a quarter fell out of the pocket and down into the hole. Geezer 2 looked down into the hole, took out his wallet and threw it down to land next to the quarter. Upon seeing that, Geezer 1 asked why the heck did he do that? Geezer 2 said, “If you think I’m going down there to get one lousy quarter, you’re crazy”.
The 8 O'Clock flavor they have in stock in the store is available for 3 day shipping. The others are not. I don't understand. Next time I'm in Walmart (odds are greater than 50/50 on any given day) I'll grab the manager and see if he can hook me up with a case.
Our postal service offers online tracking. there is also a daily email you can sign up for that includes a photo of every piece of mail that's out for delivery (a byproduct of automated sorting) and a list of parcels that are likewise "on the truck." But I've had stuff "on the way" and no get delivered for a couple of days, ad other packages not be on the radar screen at all and just show up in my mailbox. My issue is that my mailbox is 1/2 mile up the right-of-way. I purchased an oversized box so packages can fit in it, and I don't check my mail every day. I think COVID overwhelmed all these systems as the volume of online buying skyrocketed overnight. But one would think that they would have caught up by now.
There have been a couple of packages we ordered that gave a delivery estimate but never showed that it had been shipped even up to the day it was delivered. The answer I think is in the tracking. If the tracking label is damaged and can’t be read, they just send it sans tracking. Again…I think. There are times also when a package gets delivered and I get a reminder that the package is running late which means that the delivery person didn’t scan the tracking number. A couple days later, I’ll get a notice that I can get a reimbursement which is when I have to decide whether I’m really an honest person or not.
I was at Walmart once (self checkout) and when I got to my car, there was a toilet bowl brush in the cart I forgot to pay for. Not wanting to go back inside, I tore off the UPC tag and shoved it in my wallet. Next time I was checking out, I pulled out the UPS and swiped it. I bet you're the same way.
I have to admit that I have failed a test or two in my life but to me, not only is dishonesty wrong, it takes away my private ownership of something. I mean, no matter what the object in question might be, the company I illegitimately got it from still owns it and I’m using someone else’s stuff.
Did you check amazon? I got some organic there for not a bad price. Not the best tasting ever but if price is the consideration. They probably have all the other brands.
