Power is out again here for the second time. At least it is not pitch dark outside now, so we can see. Staying all bundled up and even Poodle is under the blanket. Bobby is going to bring in his outside propane heater to try and warm up the house, if the power does not come back on soon. Walmart messaged that they cancelled my food order because of the power outage, so once it gets a little warmer today, we will have to drive to the store and get the things we need. The house had been without heat all night; so it will take us a while to get even a little warm again once we have power. It is up to 10 here with -1 wind chill; so not getting much warmer outside.
We aren't that far from the ocean that, as a large thermal mass, usually has a moderating affect. However, early morning temps were somewhere below 10° F, making it unusually cold for this particular area. Yesterday it was above 50, which is to say today is a big change..
No wood, just little electric heaters that we use whatever room we are in. The power just came back on again, and Bobby has his propane blower on, and it is starting to warm up in this room again. I am staying bundled up !
Glad your electricity is back on. I bet you miss your more primitive days in Idaho. Nothing like a wood heater with a pot of several days old beans or chili on it and a kettle of hot water and a good book. The biggest thing I worry about here if my electricity goes off is my pipes freezing. I made the mistake when I was young of having the faucets running slowly to keep from freezing, but it was so cold it froze the sewer. The best decision I made was to pay $1000 to have my electricity line moved to the main line that comes 5 miles from the dam and transformer main station. It has never gone down in the over 30 years I have been here. They once only allowed us to be hooked to the sidelines that were plagued with every problem imaginable. If one house out of the 30 on it had a problem, then the entire line was pulled off until repairs were made and that might be a few hours or days.
You do realize that all of us northerners just pitch the weather over the state lines when we are done with it, right?
Looked at the hourly wind forecast and it will be getting slower over the nite. Thank goodness! When I am dressed for the weather it isn't to bad in the outbuildings without the wind. Merry Christmas guys. Our present will be the end of this.
Our winters can be terrible here, so the extra heat was sometimes needed. A little night light bulb was all that was needed inside a cooler.
As I said in the snow thread, we had quite a party here. Walmart was closed two days before Christmas. I bet that will hurt the bottom line. Lowe's had their attached greenhouse collapse, which, I guess, closed the entire store for the duration, since electrical and gas connections were broken by the collapse. Aside from the hospital issues, I haven't heard of other stuff locally.
It's funny but that dry air thing might actually make a difference. I went out yesterday, happy to find a warming trend is on the way. It was 3 ABOVE. but I came in feeling colder than days past. the air felt different.
It is 31F and sunny right now. Low last night 18F. The grass is crunchy to walk on. I forgot about that.
+22 F. and a light breeze as a respite from recent weather. Lost our power again last night for a few hours during Christmas dinner. Apparently a transformer blew up nearby. No problem thanks to the generator
