But even there, Chrissy ... have you never had a boss at work whom you felt was unfair? How did you react to them? Me - I put up with them as long as the job was worth it. Then I left, or was fired. In a forum, the mods and admins are the bosses, and do we not put up with them until it isn't worth it, or until we're "fired" for just or unjust cause? I don't really know anymore ... I've been a self-proclaimed "monk" for the last 7 years or so, recently came out of the monk closet and boy, am I out of touch with the world. I'm reminded of that on a daily basis. But my online personae were carefully designed to cope with the slings and arrows. When you give up those masks, you stand exposed to the world. That's far more frightening than being booted off of a silly forum that, in the end, doesn't really mean much of anything.
I never had too many bosses Phil, so can't compare. My last boss was my ex boyfriend so I got special treatment. I hate to say this Phil but they need a new moderator. The admin is okay but I think he's given up.
I agree Phil I have always believed a forum represents a microcosm of life, I also believe that at an unconscious level we create our experience of the world. I have always found the universe a benign place and so far in 74 years here, have never experienced a serious conflict in real life or online. I accept the world is full of good and bad, positive and negative people, but somehow I have avoided or filtered them out of my experience. Regarding the different experience of forums I also agree with you, because I am basically a pretty passive gentle person, I feel at ease or fit as you put it, in a gentle more supportive and less combative environment. This forum is my wonderland the other place became simply boring for me with all the petty tantrums.
Oh, sure - a life of ease and tranquility! *hrmph* I can't speak for the admin or the mod, but I will say that everywhere you go those in power will have their own set of prejudices, likes and dislikes. You know how sometimes you'll meet someone whom you instinctively dislike? Forums are no different. They're still peopled - and run - by fallible humans.
I suppose, but Ken is very fair and takes part in the forum which is a plus. Now I am out of here and heading to daughter's. It was nice seeing you here...drop in more often.
Then you have indeed led a charmed life, or been smiled upon by Mother Tao, or both. I, on the other hand, must have a black cat and a thundercloud over my hear, was born with a bad moon rising, or really ticked off some ancient gods. I've had my fill, and then some, of fighting and controversy and "not fitting in". If, as you say (and I tend to agree) that we create our own reality, then truly I am the only one to blame for my misfortunes. Understood, and you did the right thing - you moved on. Me? I'm the monk who is "still carrying that woman on his shoulders."
Phil, I read on your blog about a terrible experience you had with a lady on a forum who sent you an obscene and angry message. Had that been resolved?
On the other hand I could be deluding myself Phil, because I also believe the mind is a wily beast and in the interests of survival rewrites our memory as and when needed, so my default position in life now is confusion and lots of playtime with my remaining marbles. I agree with @Chrissy Page it's good to have you around here, I always liked your posts on the other place
LOL - I think if you and I combined our marbles we might just have enough to play for "keepsies". Thank you - it's nice to be wanted, just not by the police.
I agree Phil. It is about how we react to others that either gives us peace of mind, or an upset stomach. I'm not sure what a microcosm is but I imagine it's like a mirror, people are people, whether online or not. The good with the bad, and I know I am a bit of both for sure. It depends on my mood, or maybe what I may have eaten or drank in consumables:
Heh, heh ... I was just reading your response and thinking the same thing: if I have my pepperoni pizza I'm safe to be around. Any other time you take your chances ...
I think it's Asian Chicken for me, the type you can buy at Safeway Deli?? Burns so good, LOL! Except if I accidentally bite directly into a red-pepper.
