No trains to Alaska yet, but they have been trying to get one going for a number of years. We have to fly back, so we are limited to airline requirements.
I can't imagine what laying track to Alaska would entail. I guess there's some recurring degree of anger at the Federal bucks thrown at the worthless California rail stuff that never comes to fruition. Regarding flying back...I know a lot of American goods got flown back to the Motherland. I don't know what they did with all those surplus suitcases.
I think the California thing is some kind of high speed light rail, but what is proposed for the Alaska-Canada connection is a mixed freight and passenger line, i.e., standard rail and tracks. Both the airlines and the barge companies are resisting the project. Sarah Palin also wanted an extension to Nome, mostly for freight traffic.
I am getting really concerned about Al Amoling also. He has not been online here since January 26, so almost a month. Can you email him, @Faye Fox , and see if he is okay and why he has not been on the forum ?
I've just texted Al and will report back. He's here in Maine, a couple of hours south of me but we've met. If he doesn't answer the text, I'll try calling. The last I heard, he said something about doing some traveling.
I no longer have his email. Maybe he found a lady friend and has no time for posting. Is he still on Facebook? You could message him there if so.
He hasn't posted on his Facebook page since January 15 and was last here about a week after that. Hopefully, he's traveling and finding other ways to occupy his time and will be back when he's ready.
Any news about Al Amoling , @Ken Anderson ? I am guessing that he didn’t answer your text or you would have said something to let us know.
I wonder where @Cody Fousnaugh is. He's not been around since early this month. Maybe he got those teeth yanked. (Man, I hate the dentist.)
I think he made another dramatic exit. He'll be back. I'm concerned about @Al Amoling. He hasn't been around for quite some time now. Likewise @Hal Pollner and a few others.
