Let's just say that my purchases would not survive an audit, primarily because of lack of Segregation of Duties. -I identify the need -I select the supplier -I execute the purchase -I receive and inspect -I pay the bill It is a fundamentally corrupt system. That being said, I do keep a spreadsheet of stuff I need to buy. The dry erase board is to catch requirements on-the-fly. My spreadsheet is organized by category, and sorts in the order that mirrors the store's layout so I don't backtrack when I'm shopping (yes, I have it set up to change the order for each store.) When I identify a new item, it goes on the spreadsheet for me to tag to buy at some point in the future, so the list is always growing. (I've done spreadsheets since VisiCalc, so I can do this stuff in my sleep.) Here are the categories and the number of items in each: 13 Alcohol 26 Bakery 65 Baking 90 Canned 17 Cereal 26 Cleaners 41 Clothing/Other 10 Deli 16 Fish 53 Frozen 221 Hardware/Auto 43 Health 118 Household 76 Housewares 70 Meats 55 Oil/Sauces 161 Other Food 31 Paper 29 Produce/Fruit 85 Produce/Veggies 93 Refrigerated 73 Reminders 54 Snacks 67 Spices 56 Vitamins/Meds 1,589 Total Items
I found the error in your breakdowns. A specific word that has no specifics but stands as a boon to all inventories and those who take them. A word that has no meaning or value except what one wishes it to mean. A single word that gives accountants and IRS examiners nightmares. Miscellaneous. ( of course, that could be what the dry erase board is named)
Since my career was consumed by "Other Duties As Assigned," my retirement can consist of "Miscellaneous."
Using my grocery app, I have noticed once again price increases every two weeks. Folgers coffee was $10.46 on Wed. $10.79.. too many others to list. All at Walmart. It is impossible to get a head even a little bit. I have about decided to spend what we have to and when the money runs out so do Morbid - I know, but how I feel at times.
Prices will only go up from here, so buy a lot of what you need to live and what to enjoy. The exception might be automobiles and trucks. From what I have seen, some banks and credit unions are carrying as much as a 20% foreclosure/repossession rate on car loans. They will have to dump them at a discount sometime, so keep an eye out if you need a vehicle.
Oh hell no.. we are keeping our 2013 Ford truck. The state tax here is a killer the newer the worse it is. Still have register the truck here $210 to 295 I was told. Sigh
I hear people complain about prices every time I'm shopping somewhere. I comment by saying 'It's only going to up." and continue shopping.
I figure that my preps have been my best investment. I seldom lose anything with how I maintain them. And, yes, sometimes I have to replace some. But I am working on doing it without retail as best as I can. You are right, If prices keep going up, coffee today might be a good investment.
We never buy new anymore. And every car we buy we say we will be buried in it. Have a 2009 Toyota Martix and a 20013 Volvo. One for summer and gas mileage and one for winter snow. Have to pull the old 1996 truck out soon and see what it needs to get it going. 'Cash for clunkers' must have been a failed plan to get our old vehicles away from us to force us into electric vehicles.
Yup. Like making candy bars smaller, changing a "bag of coffee" from 16 oz. to 12 oz., and only putting 1 1/2 quarts of ice cream into a "half gallon" container.
This is not so much of a rant as it is a Shake My Head. Late last year I bought a weather station that I have hanging on the wall beside my bed. When Daylight Savings Time arrived, I took it off of the wall and set the time ahead an hour. This is a pain-in-the-butt process because you have to scroll through every single setting (there are 10 settings) to finish the change, being careful to not change the ones you want to keep...and the Feature Scroll Button does not always work. Neither do the Change Buttons. This is not a high-quality unit; to wit, when I woke up 2 Sundays later, the time had set ahead another hour all by itself. Apparently this has an automatic Daylight Savings Time mode for the clock, it just doesn't know when Daylight Savings Time is. I lived with it for a few weeks before deciding to go through the painful reset process again. This Fall I'll leave it be and eventually it will Fall Back all in its own sweet time. friggin' Chinese crap...claims it has a "precise dual atomic alarm clock"
Just like Social Security claiming that foregoing several years of benefits = 8% "Return on Investment." That misrepresentation is illegal in the private sector.
