Will be darn glad when Pride Month is over! Can hardly open the internet, as of yesterday, and not see pictures of Pride Flags and now, today, Transgender Flags. Some parents saying how proud they are that their kids are "queer". The parents said that word describing their kids. Our great-niece is a lesbian who is married to a lesbian. She has very little to do with the family and I think her female husband is much more into Pride Month than our great-niece is.
Dude, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Including June, they have month-long observances for 5 out of 12 months of the year. In addition, there are (5) week-long events and (32) single-day observances. (Did you know that there is a Gay Uncle Day, which Anderson Cooper "adoringly" observes?) Here's a list I snagged, which may be incomplete. Here's my rant for today. I'm just pissed at myself for being a dumbass, as usual. I've been making jelly and needed smaller half-pint jars so I jumped on Amazon yesterday and ordered 6 jars; they cost me about $24 which is absurd but I wasn't thinking much about it at the time. So today I ran out of jars and decided to check Target because I can just dash over there and pick them up. Their price is $10.99 for a case of a dozen jars. Amazon jars = $4 each. Same jars at Target = .92 cents each. So I was ripped off royally by Amazon but since those jars already have jam in them I guess they'll just go in the "lessons I learned today" column.
Sounds like you purchased from an independent seller. When buying computer parts I am really careful due to gouging from some sellers, I try to order direct from Amazon. I usually start searching a month before I order something and just save the page so I can go right back to the item I was looking at. US cost and foreign cost is like night and day. I've found some really good prices on high dollar items, like my graphics cards, this last one that will arrive next week cost 101 dollars. Two years ago it was like 236 dollars. The processors were 300 plus dollars and now I get them for 149.
Yes, the "marketplace" seller probably went to Target so he could charge me 4X as much for the jars. Of course I'm the dumbass for paying it.
Since I've had to buy catheter supplies, I've found a good medical supply place. Not only are Amazon's offerings scant, but expendable items that Amazon offers for $6.50 cost me 95¢ in single-piece quantities at the other place. Look at what Amazon has created for itself...it's never been easier to comparison shop (all you gotta do is type), yet we often just place our orders with them and not even think about it.
I don't mind paying a bit more for the convenience, but 4x as much is ridiculous. I should have paid closer attention so it's on me. For a while canning supplies were in short supply which bumped prices considerably, but that situation has since been resolved.
So are the costs now [relatively] reasonable, taking into account where everything else is these days, or have they remained high? My friend who has his own greenhouse sells all sorts of other stuff, including the McCutcheon's line of apple butter, jams (like real elderberry) and such, and they had to shut down back then due to a lack of canning jars.
Unfortunately, I have not kept tabs on canning supply prices. It's been years since I had any interest in putting up food and I'm certain this canning spurt won't last long. My cucumber harvest exceeded my expectations and I got into pickles, which has lead to jam. You know how I am.
Food is the best hobby/obsession one could possibly have. I was talking with the mobile BBQ guy last week (Rod.) He's been through cooking school and has worked at a few well known high-end places locally. I know a couple of the chefs he's worked for, and I had friends up north who were also in the business. Last time I bought lunch from the guy I tried his Steak & Shrimp Eggrolls, and that got us to talking about trying new things and some of our favorite dishes and how great food of all types is.
Every year hubby asks me if I have enough jars or lids. I always have enough because I don't can so much. Although my avatar pretty much looks like my kitchen in the fall; veggies and fruit everywhere, big pots on the stove... Drying and freezing is much easier and cooler.
I guess this really isn’t a rant per se but I ran across a YouTube short that displayed a refrigerator that was out in ‘56 and I’ve never seen one even remotely like it. I don’t even know what kind it is but I WANT one! Now! https://youtube.com/shorts/ysfeFj-710E?feature=share The only real advantage over the one in the link that we have is an ice maker but for about a hundred beans I can get a counter top ice maker.
Me too but that removable fruit and veggie thing on the door is a heckova lot better than a crisper drawer that always falls off the dern rails.
