People make their own luck......their actions determine whether it is going to be good luck or bad luck. When people have the same outcome over and over again, you can hardly blame it on "luck".
When you get settled, can you look around for a senior center or other group you could join for some socializing that does not involve satan? We have a couple of horse therapy groups here looking for volunteers. Darts?
If you can, try to think of it this way. You were looking for a place to move to and looked for all the good in your potential choices. You made a choice based on the good things you saw and experienced. Now that you have moved, you seem to focus on all the bad stuff. Try, please try to focus on all that good stuff you saw when you were just looking. If all you see is the bad stuff, you’ll never be content. Philippians 4:8 - Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Maybe it is just a case of buyer's remorse. I never bought a horse where I didn't wonder if it had been a good idea. They always were--eventually.
On the flip side, I think many would be horrified to know the paths that have taken some of us to this point in our lives. Everyone else's problems are easily overcome...our own, not so much.
I'm so pleased that my happiness doesn't depend on the people around me. Wherever I have lived, there have been people who were doing things that I disagreed with, who may have dressed weirdly or attended a different church than me, but I've gone about my own business, fraternizing with people I felt comfortable with and more than a few who I didn't feel so comfortable with. I may not have enjoyed them all but I've never had trouble finding people whose company I did enjoy, and some of them spoke a different language than I did much of the time. Once I reached the age of about thirty, age didn't matter much either, and I now have friends who are younger than my son. I can't say that I have a lot of friends who are older but that's only because most of them are dead. I don't know that I've ever met anyone who worshipped Satan but I suppose someone has to buy those shirts they sell at Target. The only person I've met who might have been worshipping something that others might describe as Satan was a kid who knew as much about Satan as he did about who the candidates were for public office. He was a patient whose Satanic friends ran off on him, leaving him to fend for himself out in the middle of nowhere, barefoot. He might have been a nice kid if he wasn't such an idiot. I didn't let it get me down too much, however. I certainly didn't let him identify my environment. If someone wants to worship Satan, that's fine with me as long as they stay away from my cats. I'd love to have a conversation with them if only to prove my theory that they don't know the first thing about Satan. They'd be as likely to give a cogent answer as to why they worship Satan as the typical Democrat could in trying to tell me what good things the Biden Administration has done for the country. It's more of a team thing. What better way to hate God than to worship Satan? I've lived in a lot of places, and rarely even in the better neighborhoods of these places. Yet, there are usually good people around, and the ones who aren't so good stay out of my way as long as I stay out of theirs. Now that I've stepped into it, I may as well give some unasked-for advice. Be comfortable and happy with yourself and those around you. Don't depend on others for your happiness or sense of satisfaction and everything will come together for you pretty much anywhere.
My lawn needs to be mowed. The gutters need to be cleaned and the roof inspected. The shop needs to be cleaned and stuff put away properly. We’re going to the gym to workout. I think I’m going to the bank on Monday to deposit some money The dogs need to be fed. The front porch needs to be cleaned and I have to paint it before winter. The logs in the wood pile need to be split and put into the truck for Robin’s fireplace. And the list goes on…… I think I have too much to do and other priorities to think about instead of worrying about what someone else is doing, wearing or how they look.
Funny, but my SIL (wife's older sister) told us "it's only very hot a few days during the summer, right?" We both laughed and told her "you'd better look up the average temps in Henderson, Nevada during the year. There are definitely more than just a few days of high heat here during the summer." As far as the "Satan lovers" go, it's extremely hard not to think, or worry, about the area you've chose to move to when you see them advertising about him. Most people, living in the area, don't want to talk about what they see and just accept what they see. We just aren't that way. We don't like complaining, but the entire area we live in, including freeway traffic, looks much like Los Angeles. We didn't know that. I mean, you can only learn so much about an area, if you can't visit it. We are seeing a lot of young Hispanics here wearing LA (Los Angeles) baseball caps. We don't see that in our apartment complex, but a few miles to the north of us we do. That location looks more like Santa Ana and/or East L.A. than anything. So, just how hot does it get? Almost every time we go somewhere, we have to take our small cooler with ice and a couple of bottles of water in it. We never/ever had to do that. The small casinos/restaurants around us are extremely smoky (cigarettes). It appears that many smokers have moved here. Smoking isn't allowed in the restaurants, but many small casinos, the cigarette smoke can travel into the restaurant. The restaurant is next to the casino with no blockage from the smoke. So, yes we are complaining again, but, it's very hard to find very much good when smoke fills the air, Satan t-shirts are worn and very high heat is in the afternoon. A person would have to visit or live here to understand. We've been here two weeks tomorrow and found out very quickly!
@Cody Fousnaugh So, yes we are complaining again, but, Do yourself and us a favor, this time try and find something good about where you live. Neither of you should concern yourselves too much with what goes on outside your own doors. that is the beauty of having your own space.
I love where I am and my life mostly. But you know what? I can find things to complain about. The other day one of the largest calf raising operations cleaned its calf pens and spread so much that the smell made ME close our windows. It penetrated the air into town! It was horrible. Hubby asked What was that SMELL?! I happened to know but this was the worst I'd ever known it. Like @Bobby Cole, there is so much piling up to do. The renter was mowing the lawn but no one seems to ever do the trim work. They had not picked up their dog poop since they got home from vacation. We don't go out to eat much anymore because things are so expensive. But people seem to be eating out anyway. How come they can and we can't? I picked up some pullets (chickens) today and put them in feed bags on the passenger side floor. When I went to take them out of the bags, the bottoms were all wet from a 30 minute drive?! So my floor mats will smell like what? The girl who helps me sometimes has been complaining about not having enough money, could she please come today to clean or anything. I said fine. She isn't here which is probably why she can't keep a job and has no money. My daughter moved out this month to be able to walk around in town at will. She wants me to come and get her to do her wash because her roommates are hoarders. And now I have to drive into town to get her. ....
So, after reading Mary Stetler's post (#359/above mine here, most of us do have complaints and/or complain. Some don't state their complaints/complaining, while others do. We are no different than others! And now, we are trying to figure out the IBS/diarrhea we've been having. We had it in Colorado and now have it here. Just thank God our Porta Potty was in out boat late yesterday morning. We were at the boat to take the batteries out to recharge at home and install a couple of cleats. It was hot (94) and the closest restroom was down the road, outside of the Boat/Trailer Storage. There was no way my wife would have made it there. After she done her thing, I had to do mine. Nobody in the Boat/Trailer Storage, except a Security Guard in a trailer outside of the gate. However, it was a very tight squeeze using the Porta Potty inside the small cuddy cabin. But, we done it. We think this IBS is being caused by the same anxiety we had in Colorado. We really like our new apartment and it's the biggest we've ever had. Perhaps even too big for us. BUT, the plan is, and remains (my wife totally agrees), us moving back into Old Man Winter in northern Nevada. Definitely not back to Colorado. Fortunately, we will be able to drive up to both Reno and Carson City, check both out, and then decide which one to move to. But, just remember, forum members, I'm not (and my wife isn't either) the only ones who complain on this forum. Thanks for understanding.
