If it's a jawbone or joint infection, the antibiotic ought to make a difference soon. I don't know much about TMJ. Maybe they sprained something during surgery. She said a complication of this surgery is sometimes a severed nerve. It usually shows up as a droopy eye when it's in the top jaw. They never mentioned anything about left over tooth fragments.
Maybe the fact that she swallows the dry food whole is the problem. It may be sticking in her throat...?? Could you try some kitten kibble that is smaller pieces?
I was concerned they used a retractor to hold the mouth open for the surgery, and that perhaps overextended the jaw.
Are there stitches in her mouth from the surgery? If so, they may have left the stiches a little long, or to the kitty, the stitches could feel like something is stuck to the roof of her mouth. Poor sweet kitty.
I've never heard of this, so I went and read a little. I just put it on the list for my next trip to Walmart. It looks like it will be handy to have around.
That's what I suspected from the start. BUT, they guaran-damn-teed me the stitches are all gone. They have X-ray vision, like Superman. This reminds me of an episode of Columbo, where the murderer was a surgeon who killed his patient by using dissolvable stitches when he shouldn't have.
I always understood that pawing at the mouth generally indicates pain. I wonder if she developed an infection after the surgery. Or perhaps a piece of dry food has gotten lodged in her wound before it healed, causing pain? Or did the Vet leave something like gauze inside the wound he forgot to take out before he/she stitched it up, which they will never admit. I’m guessing. I’m cynical about Vets too.
That sounds like a reasonable possibility. It might also be that something is keeping the surgical wounds painful, such as maybe the kibble. Just guessing, of course, but I know that whenever I have had major dental work done, the last thing I wanted to eat was potato chips or hard cereal.
I switched her to some Blue Buffalo kibble a month ago. The pieces are less than a 1/4" in diameter (and she likes it). Has no trouble eating it at all.
OK. Watching the video, the food seems to be large pieces. I hope the little thing gets better soon; it's so hard when they can't tell us what's wrong.
