Well, "Mrs. Softy", Marie, went out at 11:11 pm and brought her back in last night because it was storming and raining. Marie woke me at 6 am telling me that she had; I got kind of mad and said, you can clean up after her then, It's never gonna work if we don't work together. :(

It did feel good to finally get about 5 hours of sleep, for a change, I sat drinking my coffee and thought, don't be so hard on her, she's dealing with it too, then after Molly had slept a while and started moving around, I put her back out and cleaned bathroom up, and bleached everything, again.

It's really hard dealing with your pet when they get really old, and can't function right anymore, you go through all kinds of guilt, emotions, and feelings; it seems.

That is exactly right. You want to make them better and you can't. You are a good doggy daddy, Jake.

I would love to have a puppy or a dog again, but I'm afraid I just don't have the energy anymore. It's all I can do to keep up with minimal housework and a small bit of gardening these days.

Beth I was thinking of what I told you about getting a dog last night. after dealing with Molly in a storm and trying to lift her up the steps' she is a large dog breed', dry us both, clean up her poop and get her bed back into the house.
Bad advice ,glad you didn't listen.

I understand that, about just keeping up, and with her waking me and keeping me awake, it's even harder. Reached the point where I had to do something; I felt. Thanks for complimenting me, Beth, about being good to them, I do try, but the older I get the harder it becomes.

I'm going out there, off and on with her during the day, and spending time with her, and Marie does too. She will do ok out there I think, for whatever time she has, I've thought she was dying for over two years now, so, not sure when; will see.

I planned my retirement but had no idea what would happen. My plan was to sail the Caribbean but did not know how to sail so first I had to learn. Had no idea where I was going but I would when I got there. It was just a day by day adventure always something to learn and new fears to face. Before I left everyone had stories and fears of securities to consider and nothing happened even finding it was more secure that staying it Canada. I think God had a hand in it as I escaped Canada before it became tyrannical. Even sailing out of Canada for six years it would not be legal to sail back because after I left you needed a license to operate a boat. Some one said if you just throw yourself to the wind and enjoy the ride you will come out fine. So far that has been my experience just go for it and enjoy the trip.

Interesting Martin, did you sail or was it just a wish to do so, I'm not sure I understand your post. I really enjoy story's like this, we watch two YT videos of people who took to the sea, one single couple and another couple with 4 kids which one left and went to college.

Changed the oil pan gasket today on the truck, because when I rebuilt the engine I had to keep pulling it down in the front, to get the timing chain cover off, so I could go back into the front of the engine. And messed it up, trying to get it back in time. This 2.4 engine, has to have three things, that have to be in perfect time, for it to run the distributor, timing chain, and gear. The mechanic online, I read about said, it took him fifteen tries, for him to get the one he was working on, back in time. So I didn't feel too bad about it, taking me a few tries.

Anyway, I changed it out today since I had noticed it leaking some oil, and when I got the oil pan off I saw where the gasket was broken.

So what requires adjustment: the distributor shaft, the gear or the chain? I gotta think that the chain may be marked as a starting point, but functionally isn't it the gear & distributor that can mess you up?

(Kinda makes you embrace all things electronic, huh? Although I had the ignition pickup go bad in my truck once. There's nothing you can do at roadside to get it running again.)

I basically took today off, not even a trail walk, that's a first in a long time. Except for cleaning up my kitchen, lots of dish's pots. pans.

You just have to make sure that the gear, chain, and distributor, are all in sequence together. It will not run if they're not. Believe me, it's a pain in the butt to get it all there. I think electric vehicles will go bust before it's over. I like combustible engines mainly, myself.

Sorry, I meant electronic ignition, not EVs. But if you get stranded, it's nice to know that an extra set of points might get you going again.

I've swapped out engines, but I've never rebuilt one (larger than 5hp.)

Oh, ok, wasn't sure. Now that bumblin' Biden is pushing them EVs, I didn't know if you were talking about them. They're starting to get a bad name already, lots of problems, that I've heard about. I've done a little bit of everything, when it comes to vehicles, myself.
