Well I have to ADMIT…I’ve recently had a spit or two ..or ..three at my DH ,……. in his working life he was a heavy machinery diesel mechanic where he was used to throwing / handling unbreakable stuff ……and he has a habit of treating my dinner ware which is Corelle like he’s handling some huge engine part off a truck , he puts everything in the sink together saucepans and my dinner ware/ knives and forks / any utensils …..now I know for a fact is NOT as they say chip proof …cause he’s managed to chip at least 7 different plates / bowls and those types of deep plates like a pasta plate ..I hate chipped plates so I’ve binned them So he’s on notice he’s getting pretty close to being completely banned from MY KITCHEN ….
Sometimes they do act like bulls in a China Shop. Jake just broke one of my correl ware bread plates yesterday. We were in a theft store, lots of old furniture, household items. in there from estate sales,etc,. Jake was in the dinnerware section and several old ladies had circled him. I went to see what the commotion was about. They were saying give me that China, I want it, Jake was pulling away from them saying ,its mine and I'm keeping it. All joking of course but they really wanted this English bread and tea set, Royal Vale, made in England. Jake won, a couple decades later, it's still in our China Cabinet.
There is a term for what he's doing: Weaponized incompetence is when an individual consciously or unconsciously demonstrates helplessness in order to avoid certain tasks or responsibilities, resulting in others stepping in and doing the task for them.
Just tell him that the more he breaks, the closer he's getting to replacing the whole lot. Maybe that'll help.
I was walking thorough a department store just after new year and they had a newish design set of corelle dinner ware and I stopped and picked a bowl up to look at it and the back parts of the bowl felt like it had not been glazed it felt horrible . I like blue is it was a white set with a blue pattern / think it was like scribble @Jenna Parnellson
