I need some Change, so ordered 6 filets of the above Salmon for about $26 total. I'll thaw a filet out when I want to cook it up.

Just was notified by store, Out of Stock......A sign of the Times, I'd say... Any of you folks relate????

Have you got an Aldi @Joy Martin I find their frozen fish good , I buy the frozen Atlantic salmon ( 2 pack ) I like the lemon pepper. it also comes unseasoned .
Aldi has once again been voted as the best place for the $$$ to shop in Australia ….

Hi, no Aldi in these parts, but I'll have to look at other sources for cooked quality fish, I didn't do that for this order. I hoped to get the uncooked filets, but it did NOT happen. thanks thou.

I know you probably explored this, but the per-pound price of those 6 oz fillets is almost exactly the same as a fresh whole salmon fillet. At least it is in my neck of the woods on the east coast ($11.99/pound.) You could portion one out yourself and freeze it if you can't find alternatives.

11,99 might be farm raised variety, but not wild...

Yup. It sure is farm raised.

Kroger has a 2# pak of frozen wild caught for only $14 ($7/pound), but it's only rated 2 Stars with 26 ratings. Apparently it's USA salmon sent to China to be processed.

I just read an article that says even the Chinese do not trust Made In China salmon. There is an emerging middle class that can afford Alaskan salmon, so that might be depleting domestic supplies. Link

In a few weeks, I will be entitled to catch fifty Sockeyes if I choose. When I lived the the Bush, we ate salmon at least 3 times a week, so I got quite tired of it. I think my wife accumulated around fifty different ways to serve the fish. There we caught up to 250 fish in a single trip. Sorry, it is illegal for me to transfer these. Household use only.

I like fresh water fish (bass, pan fish, catfish) and I love seafood. But for some reason I never developed a liking for salmon. I've cooked it a handful of times, but it's been years since I've had it.

How long is that season? Is that post-spawn? I assume you dry it to preserve it, and not can it or salt it down.

The season varies from year to year depending on the strength of the run. It is definitely not post-spawn, for Pacific salmon is not edible (at least for humans) after they spawn. Atlantic salmon is a completely different thing. For the salmon snobs in Alaska, Atlantic salmon is not really edible either:). Atlantic salmon can be farmed, however, while Pacific cannot. There are five types of Pacific salmon, while, as far as I know, there is only one type of Atlantic. Pacific salmon begin to decay when they enter fresh water, so the closer to salt water you catch them, the better. The decay rate varies with the species and the locale. The professional salmon fishermen catch all their fish in salt water.

While I may well enjoy fresh salmon if I were to try it, I haven't been a big fan of any of the salmon I have eaten, except for smoked salmon, which I like, but it's on the expensive side. I don't hate salmon, but there are several other types of fish that I like better than salmon.

Actually, me too, but it is a subsistence thing here and is what many eat to survive.

I agree. I don't like the taste of salmon, though I can tolerate it in a salmon croquette or something similar (with enough onion to hide the salmon taste.) :D

I like salmon patties and salmon chowder, but, like I posted, we have MANY ways to serve it.
