Ninja Creami

    Does anyone have one of these to make ice cream at home ? I have been seeing where a lot of the health experts and even body builders are using them to make a healthy and delicious ice cream, and it looks pretty simple to do.
    You just mix up the ingredients and freeze them, and then put the frozen mixture in the Ninja Creami and let it run.
    Most of the videos then suggest adding a little bit more milk (or other liquid) and mixing it again for an even creamier texture.

    I have been watching several of the videos, and besides ice cream, you can make milkshakes, sherbet, sorbet, and other frozen treats.
    You can add in extras like cookies, chocolate chips and stuff like you have in regular ice cream from the store, or you can just keep it really basic with a simple ice cream.

    The health experts use things like yogurt, cottage cheese and protein mixes for extra protein and health benefits, and to keep it all low carb , so it is not just a lot of sugar and the chemical flavors that are in store ice cream.

    The downside , at least for me, is the price. They cost around $200, less for renewed or on sale, and more for the deluxe model.
    I think that I want one, but I need to watch more videos and shop around. I found some for around $100 on facebook marketplace, but not any for sale close to us.
    Walmart has one for $150, so that is better, but still expensive. I would like to know if anyone has one of these already, and if so, how do you like it , and is it worth the price ?

    No, I don't. I have a Cuisinart ice cream maker that hasn't been used in at least 5 years, and an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer that has never been used... so I know I wouldn't use the Creami. People seem to like them but I don't have the kitchen space or inclination to spend that much money on another gadget.

    I've had...but never made...homemade ice cream.

    I'm curious to see if anyone here makes their own.

    We have an old-fashioned churn thing that uses the rock salt or whatever. We used to make ice cream when the kids were young. My Cuisinart makes 1.5 quarts so it is sized for the 2 of us, but I haven't used it in a very long time.

    We have been talking this over, and I have an older ipad that I do not need, so I am going to sell that and get a Ninja Creami from Sam’s Club tomorrow. The walmart one is $149, and the Sam’s is $159, but it has more of the little ice cream cups, which we will need anyway.

    I have gained weight again, especially since our fitness center closed, and we are not exercising like we did before. Plus, indulging in unhealthy treats, like regular ice cream.
    So, it is back to a healthy low-carb, lots of good veggies food plan for me, and the protein shakes will be a meal replacement, and will be an ice cream treat , all at the same time.

    I will be interested in hearing how you like it, Yvonne. I walked through Kohl's earlier today and noticed a big display of them; I think their price was $229 but they are having a sale and I'm not sure what the sale price is.

    Bobby makes a protein drink every day, and I enjoy them, too but do not have them as often. Since we can make a dessert from foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, and added protein powder , or extra powdered milk for more protein and vitamins, that will also be low carb; I am really excited about doing this.
    I need to get back on my low carb eating plan again, and this should give me a good boost. There are several of us on here that follow low carb food plans, so I am looking forward to sharing how this works out.

    I’ve been following a low carb diet since 2008 , I was wondering what the fat / sugar content is of the smoothie / ice cream protein meal replacement? @Yvonne Smith

    I’ve made a fruit ice cream with frozen bananas as a base using just a simple kitchen whizz, they tend to come with all sorts of attachments now ( seen a few in shops yesterday )

    The fat and sugar content completely depends on what you make the dessert out of, @Kate Ellery . You could literally take one of the ready-to-drink (RTD) protein drinks, pour it into the Creami cup, freeze it overnight, and have ice cream the next day, that easy ! The Premier Protein has about 30 grams of protein and about 1 gram of sugar.

    What we will do is use our regular protein powder, and mix it up with milk or yogurt, or add some blended cottage cheese in with it, maybe a handful of berries for fruit flavor, so it would not have any sugar added, and just the natural sweetness from the fruit , if we added fruit to it.
    You can add little pieces of a protein bar, like an Atkins bar or something similar, and it will be like a snickers ice cream.

    I have made a similar dessert using blended cottage cheese and milk, and some sugar-free pudding mix. It freezes solid, and then it is hard to eat, so you have to eat it when it is partially frozen and still kind of like a pudding in the middle. The Ninja blends everything up with its little blades and turns it into a creamy ice cream instead of just a frozen protein drink.

    When I was the steward on an off-shore oil rig, I kept a couple of electric churn type ice cream makers going 24/7.
    After I made the first batch, the company tool pushers promised to provide everything I needed to make ice cream for 35 workers.

    When the catering company I worked for got wind of what I was doing, Oceanic Butler said they would be glad to provide cartooned ice cream but the tool pushers both refused the offer and one even said that the openly visible churns making ice cream was a good moral booster and it tasted better than the carton stuff.

    We made old fashion ice cream all the time when I was a kid. The adults took turns churning the ice cream maker, and adding the rock salt. It seemed it was something everyone just did, when we got together with family and friends. It was good ice cream too!

    I have made a small batch of pumpkin ice cream a few times freezing it in a bread loaf pan. No churning involved--just mixing and freezing, which tasted pretty good, if my memory serves me correctly.

    Looks cute enough but I just don't like to use more kitchen counter/storage space or deal with the cleanup. Of course I haven't bought store ice cream in over a year either, and maybe twice a year before that.

    I don't even buy yogurt any more... plain, with cultures, or otherwise. Strait up cottage cheese in large size containers is a lot better deal. But that's just me.

    Tonight we had our first Ninja ice cream, and it was SO DELICIOUS and creamy, just like regular ice cream. I just made a vanilla one to start out with, and I used a whey protein powder, cottage cheese, and enough milk to blend it together, plus some vanilla extract and a little Splenda sweetener.
    I can’t believe how creamy it turned out, when it has no cream in it at all, just milk and cottage cheese.

    My extra containers came today, as well as my grocery order, and I ordered some mini chocolate chips, peanut butter powder, and walmart Oreo type cookies to use as add-in, for when we want that.
    So I made some peanut butter ice cream and some banana-strawberry ice cream and have those in the freezer for us to eat some tomorrow. Instead of cottage cheese, this time I blended in some plain yogurt.

    This is SO easy to use, and I just love how rich and creamy it is ! And best of all, we can have ice cream every day if we want and still be eating healthy foods.

    Yesterday, we had the peanut butter and chocolate chips (our version of Reese’s ) and it was wonderful. Today, we had the strawberry banana with cookie chunks, so our version of cookies and cream ice cream.
    Tomorrow will be chocolate, made with cottage cheese and plain raw cocoa. I think that this Ninja Creami might be the best home gadget i have ever had !
    Cottage cheese and yogurt never tasted so good, and the protein powder adds that extra bit of protein and vitamins to the mix. This might be the answer you have been looking for to get that extra calcium, @John Brunner ?

    And to think I could have been making the Ninja style homemade ice cream all along @John Brunner!

    I think the way this thing got its start was probably when some guy forgot his protein shake in the freezer.
    When he finally remembered it, the shake was frozen in the shaker cup so, being the innovative person he was, he went into his shop.
    There, he located either a 2 1/2” Forchner bit or a rosette cutter and attached it to his drill press and began plowing through his frozen shake.
    After making one pass, he did it again and again and voila…….he had an ice cream jam packed with protein.

    If I had only thought of it, we would have had healthy ice cream all along and if I had addressed the idea with a manufacturer, I’d probably have a tidy little paycheck.
    I would have called it: Drill Press Ice Creamer ! (much catchier than Ninja Creamie)

    Yeah, I know. IF….. IF the dog hadn’t stopped to take a pee he would have caught the rabbit.
