Incredibly it appears Florida will suffer another major hurricane this coming week. It is headed for the west side of the state in the GoM.
I'm due to fly out of Central Florida on Tuesday. I'm praying I can get on a plane before "the unpleasantness" as I've had to cancel this trip twice already and I'm running out of time. I'm going north to see relatives that aren't doing so well and I'd really like to spend some time with them before I see them at their funeral..... I've tried to get out Monday and even tomorrow but so is everyone else, so I'll just have to take my chances.
I hope your flight time works out well for you, Mary. It's still too soon to be sure but it looks like Milton could be even worse than they were reporting this morning. Ryan Hall says it's escalating too quickly. But he also shows that there are a lot of different models for the hurricane so I'm rooting for the weakest one.
The people who track these storms are saying that they have never seen a storm come on this path before. Usually, they start outside of the Gulf, and then come into the gulf and go wherever they come ashore at. This storm has started basically right on land by Mexico and is coming straight across the gulf headed for Florida. It is apparently also heading directly to an area where there are rich quartz deposits, just like happened in North Carolina , where there is both quartz and lithium deposits, and the people there did not want to sell to the company that wants to put in lithium mines.
Those are actually only loans, and if not paid back in a year, the government takes the property. However, the requirements are that people have to be below poverty level, and have no home owners or rental insurance to even get the $750, and what I am seeing is that most people have to file online, and have been turned down, so they are not even getting that pittance.
Trump started a gofundme page. I looked and there are two. Maybe more. Don't know which he started but the one I thought, had a goal of $1million dollars. Last I looked, yesterday, it was $6million. We care if the Biden/Harris government doesn't.
I'm not so worried about our house. It's sturdy and has a newish roof. It's the Other Half that has me scared. I made him promise that he wouldn't go out all Rambo on the yard afterward. He has some new tools he's DYING to try out and it's the "dying" I worry about.
I can empathize with that. Hubby is, all of a sudden, losing some of his ability so he struggles to get it back. I yell at him every time he goes out to TAKE HIS PHONE! I am thankful for that technology sometimes.
Milton is currently rated a 5. The national hurricane center is currently reporting 175 mph winds. Hopefully it won't be a 5 by the time it makes landfall in a couple of days. The Tampa Bay area is currently evacuating and it's good they are getting a head start. Where I live there are no hurricanes. I am in awe of those of you who live there and there will be prayers for this situation.
I have the "stream" up and Ryan will start it in about 5 minutes from now. Here's think stream-link if anyone wants it. EDIT: Oops, apologies, the time changed, so I know they aren't always on the time they say, but this will link you when it is up and running:
