So, I went to the dentist yesterday to have a tooth pulled that had broken. (Another story) I was given the usual document to read and sign that makes you aware of some of the things that could happen during the procedure. I thought 'Whoa, really? a broken jaw?' So I prayed before signing it. My appointment was at 2:40 and ended around 3:30. During that time it took maybe 3 minutes to extract the tooth. Thank you, God.

Glad it went well for you, Von.

I've seen "permanent nerve damage" and "fragments of teeth left behind," but don't remember a broken jaw. Maybe they want to keep open the option to tie your tooth to a doorknob, like in the cartoons. :)

I'm glad it went well, Von. The only thing worse than getting dental work done is needing to get dental work done.

Family lore has it that when my older brother had a loose tooth as a kid, the oldest sister tied one end of a string to it and the other end to the motorized winch of his Erector Set, intending for the winch to pull his tooth. The problem was that the winch went excruciatingly slow, and he would just move closer to it as the string tension increased. So my sister got impatient and smacked him in the forehead. Voila!! Tooth-B-Gone!!!

In the past few months, I've had four broken/bad teeth pulled. I had to sign several pages of documents before each visit. Tomorrow I'm getting a bridge.

Yep @Beth Gallagher - that is true- however tiny secret- dentist don't like to pull teeth..because they can make more money doing other procedures. To which in many a case is extensive and costlier.;)

I have never had a tooth pulled in my entire life, but my husband has had a lot of dental procedures. It seems to me that dentists don't do much at all anymore; each time he needs actual work done they send him to an oral surgeon. The dentists here are like some kind of forwarding service that just collect their copay and send you on.

There was an article making the rounds claiming that the dental implant places were replacing teeth that might be salvaged, the inference being that they did it for the money. Others pointed out that if you try to salvage a tooth and it ends up being lost anyway, you might have also lost the healthy foundation that an implant would be attached to.

I'm scheduled to have a tooth pulled the day before Thanksgiving. o_O

The good news? Normally Thanksgiving is just like any other day for me. This year I can justify real chocolate ice cream all day. :)

Von I had one pulled year before last, it blacked both my eyes, bruised my face and neck, It hit my sinus cavity, looked like I was in a wreck, but it didn't hurt and healed up just fine.
