I watched an old movie made in 1930 and it showed a briefcase with two swastikas on it. I thought the swastika came about after 1930 but learned it came about in 1920 Germany. Granted the origin is much older but it is often attached to Hitler. Since this movie had nothing to do with politics or miliary I wonder why show such a briefcase?
So what is the history of the swastika that might have been in context in that flick? (This reminds me of how Americans used to salute the flag before the Nazis ruined it for us.)
It's a movie. There are movies that are very authentic and others that are not. Being in the Navy during Vietnam, I've seen a few movies where a military medal/ribbon wasn't authentic.
The swastika's history has roots in India long before Germany and it related to good things in life, not bad. Hindu and Buddist religions etc. Maybe the case had something to do with those origins?
The point I am making is it related to nothing in the movie and that is why I remain curious why show it at all?
Did they zoom in on the swastika and make a point of you seeing it, or might is have been on that briefcase because some briefcases of the period were adorned that way...much as the clothes the actors wore were not to send a message, but it was just how they dressed at the time? And what movie are we talking about?
The Navajo have a symbol very similar to a swastika, known as the whirling logs motif. This article claims that the swastika originated in India, and have been found in 6,000-year-old cave paintings.
I don't recall the title of the movie. It made 94 years ago and I did not recognize any actors. There was no zoom on the briefcase. It really should have never made the cut because it was tied to nothing in the plot
John, so has many parts of history, far as half-truths and lies. Hitler was evil man but if we really think about it, so were many Germans who listened to him and followed his agenda. Also, the Jews weren't exactly perfect in this but their place in it all didn't come close to the bloodthirsty evil and violence of the Germans in this. Throughout history mankind has not always been kind. Look at Afrika recently for instance, killing citizens in horrible deaths like blacks Winnie Mandela's burning tire necklaces. The killing of whites in South Afrika. Roman Crusaders, Roman Inquisitions. What About Stalin, Mussolini, Pol Pot, further back the Vikings, even further, the Jews Crucifying all the Chrisitan's in Israel, so much so there no more Cedars in Lebanon. Point is all people can do horrible things to each other, no one culture, tribe or race is any better or worse than the other.
There are good actors and bad actors everywhere. The only point I would disagree with you on is that some cultures have a higher percentage of bad actors...or maybe a lower percentage of good actors who will actually act. Or maybe the same percentage of each, but some bad actors are way worse that others.
