11/29/24 Friday I never intended to watch a football game last night, but got hooked at the beginning. Georgia was behind 0-17 at the half, but they always do better in the second half. Long story short it took 8 OVERTIMES for Georgia to beat Georgia Tech (44-42). The game lasted until past midnight. Georgia got some lucky breaks. I hope I got this straight: ""Georgia would have had to beat the winner of the Texas-Texas A&M game tonight, and thus win the SEC Championship, to get in the playoffs. Now, even with a loss, a 10-3 conference record should be enough to get them in the playoffs." This makes no sense. I thought GT was in the ACC.
I was watching the Georgia/GT game last night and thought of you @Nancy Hart. Didn't they say that the graduating class on the Georgia team has never experienced a home game loss their entire 4 years playing??? And I had no idea that college football managed overtime that way.
Yeah, I was glued to the game, and even my wife sat an watched it. She was rooting for GT, although I have no idea why. Maybe just hoping of the underdog to win. I had no dog in the fight, so I didn't care. I haven't seen a college game go into overtime in many years. I wish the NFL managed OT the same way.
That was a very frustrating game to watch. I was rooting for A&M. UGA beat Texas once this season, but I doubt they can do it again. That's true. Did you know Kirby Smart is the highest paid college football coach ($12 million / year)? I didn't. I don't usually watch games if I don't have a dog in the fight, but when I do, I always root for the underdog also. Those players looked so beat up by the end. At least they only had to walk up and down the field 8 times, instead of 16.
More distractions When I cut down the 2nd dogwood tree Saturday (11/23), there was an unfortunate "encounter" between a very large limb and my nose. By chance I discovered blurry vision in the right eye later that night. Was it related? It didn't get any better by Monday, and I started remembering clues that this began much earlier. So the internet self-diagnosis began. Tried to find some (non-zebra) explanation that could wait until after Thanksgiving to be fixed. The answer was always: "Blurry Vision => See Eye Doctor Immediately!" Then I remembered my mother's cataract surgery. She had to follow up a few years later because the membrane behind the new plastic lens grew cloudy. The fix is simple, and you can put it off a long time. Appointment with an optometrist was this Tuesday (12/3). Pressure in that eye was normal. The Doc said I was probably(??) right about the diagnosis. But their equipment couldn't see through the cloudiness to look at what was going on in the back of the eye. Could be two things going on at the same time. They would schedule an appointment for me to see the doctor who did the original cataract surgery. I told them any day, any time. This is where the communication always breaks down. Don't call us, we'll call you. How long does it take to schedule an appointment? If I don't hear back by the end of the day today I should call them just in case they forgot. I don't like being glued to the phone waiting. I'm writing all this down in detail because the writing provides a distraction from all the distractions.
My new phrase is "Blame it on gravity!"....maybe you could do that? Then again, maybe you needed goggles or a face shield? Be patient, and follow up. Life is really an obstacle course, duck & crawl!
Sorry you're having the eye issue, Nancy. I'd check back with them on the appointment... this time of year gets really busy with people trying to get into appointments before their insurance out-of-pocket resets in January.
Actually my glasses acted like a face shield. The limb hit the glasses and smashed them into my face. So the bridge of the nose suffered most of the damage.
No. Wish I could use the wind as an excuse. It was a twisted limb just above my head, and a miscalculation on my part about how it would fall.
The dental surgery the day before Thanksgiving was not a distraction. It was planned. The doctor did both sides at the same time. One side was an extraction. The tooth came out in one piece. It's a cute little thing. One of these is mine. The other belonged to one of our goats. That slot will remain empty. The other side got an implant. One follow-up appt on Dec 18th and that's it for probably 4-6 months. Now all 4 quadrats will be equal and balanced with 6 teeth each.
(12/17/24) Tuesday Just got back from the eye surgeon's office. My guess was correct---just the cloudy membrane. The one in the left eye is starting to cloud up but only around the edges. Everything else is fine. YAG procedure right eye only, Dec 31st. Lucky to get it in so soon. I'll be ready to party before midnight.
I spent most of last weekend online pretending to shop for an acoustic guitar. I've done this before, but there are so many choices I usually give up quickly. It was either keep shopping or start cleaning house, so I kept at it this time. Finally narrowed down to two---both entry-level Classical guitars. One a Yamaha C40; the other, a higher end Cordoba C5. They had both in stock at the local Guitar Center, so I took off Monday to check them out. Even I could tell the Cordoba sounded much better. But it had a spruce top that looked washed out, almost like Cream of Wheat. LINK TO SEE THE COLOR They say if you don't love your guitar, you won't learn to play it. J.P., the nice kid that helped me, suggested I order a new one with a cedar top instead, and enticed me with $40 off. Picked it up yesterday afternoon. It's a thing of beauty. Like a German's Chocolate cake, depending on how the light hits it. The nylon strings won't cut your fingers like steel. It has a 2.05" nut width. That's as wide apart as strings come on any 6-string guitar. No excuses left. If I can't do it, I'll trade it in on a harmonica. The bargain? For every hour wasted on this, I must spend an hour doing housework. So far I'm 4 hours behind.
