The only difference between "seed" potages and the ones from the store is that the seed potatoes are certified to be disease free and not sprayed with chemicals to eliminate sprouting. If you spuds are sprouting, they aren't sprayed with inhibitor, so the only problem could be disease, but if you are using containers the disease would be confined to the soil in those containers and could be discarded if disease like blight shows up. That is not easily done in the field.

You could use an automated drip system (but that could be costly) or just turn the drip system on once a day (which would be much cheaper).

We’ve got drippers on all our garden @Don Alaska it’s a great system we operate from our phone where ever / when ever we want to water only problem is what a large bag would need in water is to much for say a little pumpkin patch …it’s fine if we are home we can give the likes of pots extra water

this is exactly what we have X 6 stations

Precisely what I was referring to @Kate Ellery. You can't deliver enough water with your system? If that is the case, reduce the porosity of the bags or use solid pots. Can't you set it on automatic? Mine are on a battery controlled timer and they water one zone every other day, but they could be set to every day. The length of time the water is running is adjustable as well.

When we are home we of course check if raised garden beds need water, when we are away we can see on our security cameras if it needs watering ..yes 6 different zones one base station for each zone as I posted in link up,here ^
2 of the zones are my sensitive begonias / ferns that only get watered if it’s really hot and very rarely watered at all in winter

Great idea about the solid pots that’s why I like that YouTube he makes allot of sense to me using solid pots, I’ve put 2 spuds outside to hopefully shoot so I can plant them ….according to Google spuds can be grown almost year round in South Australia, providing it’s not frosty ….we don’t get frost living near
the sea ( we are 5 min walk away )
However it sure felt like frost here the winter just passed …couldn’t see any but it sure had that feel in the finger tips it was frost ….
Thanks @Don Alaska ….by the way we can also operate the lights in our home when we are away with the wifi bit that comes with those timers ..don’t ask me how that’s hubs department :):)
